I don't really care for brown rice. At all. I'd rather eat cardboard. It has better flavor to me.

I love sushi, and I was thinking about my loverly white rice on some nori when I got to thinking if you could use potatoes instead of rice for the sushi rice portion. What a novel Idea!

Alas, someone else has thought of it!

There are lots more recipes out there, none of them vegan, but all easily adaptable to McDougall. I'm going to have to give it a shot and report back. I'm sorry I didn't do all the dirty work then report back to everyone. I was just really excited about the idea!

It'll be interesting to see what you come up with.

Hm. Interesting idea. Not sure I'd be willing to try it so I'm interested to hea how you like it.

I tried making sushi with brown rice years ago. DH hates brown rice and I really didn't like it in the sushi so I finally quit. Perhaps I could use half white-half brown, though, and still enjoy that.

On the brown rice note, I've finally figured out that I can get DH to eat it if it's incorporated into something else rather than stand-alone (like stirfry vegs over rice). He'll eat it in, say, sweet potato patties and not complain.

Hm, speaking of sweet potato, cooked slices of that work well in sushi. Might be interesting to have potato sushi with sweet potato filling.

I just cooked up a big pot of brown rice for my wife and stole some of it to make sushi rice... rolled it up with scallions, some vegetable peeler sliced cucumber, wasabi and a dash of vinergerette... not terrible... its not fantastic, but its an acceptable substitute for the next few years.

ill have to work on potato filling when I've more time. maybe tomorrow.

I couldn't have said it better! I love brown rice and sushi and I'm not too sure how I feel about potato sushi, but I'd love to hear about how it turns out for you!

I dislike the plain brown rice you get in your average grocery store, but I really like Brown basmati and jasmine rice. I recently tried Purple sticky rice and Forbidden (black) rice, and they both tasted great and were whole grain.

Today I just purchased a new cuckoo rice pressure cooker. It is a expensive purchase but my last one lasted 8 years and tonights brown rice turned out so soft. I could make some sushi with the left over brown rice. I purchased some kimchee daikon from the Korean market. Yikes I just was checking the instruction book for rice recipes that include beans.. and realized I am missing the steamer plate. I guess that means I am back to the market.....

Aloha, patty
