Hi KatyInAZ,

This may help. Sierra posted how to print selections and I use this method to print recipes from the newsletters and from this board. Here goes.

1. hold down left mouse and highlight what you want to print
2. right click mouse button and select print
3. when Print box comes up on screen, select selection and hit print

Note: I have these handwritten instructions right by my computer and use them all the time. Sierra's instructions have helped me so much.

Doris :)

Not sure if you've seen this but over at Fat Free Vegan, all of these recipes by a woman named Susan should be McDougall friendly:

http://www.fatfreevegan.com

and she also has a Maximum Weightloss Section:

http://www.fatfreevegan.com/mwl/

Hope that helps!

KatyInAZ,

There is a recipe by category index and also a recipe by newletter index in the archived section of newsletters. I realize that I have to find the actual recipe I want to try (or think I may want to try) by going to the particular newsletter it is posted in. It would be nice to be able to select the recipe directly from the index. I'm not computer literate, so I suspect that it may be difficult to make a link for each recipe. At least all the recipes are indexed. I do appreciate the index and all the archived recipes in the newletters.

Doris :)

Kathy and doris I don't like every recipe so I highlight the one I like and cut and paste it into a McDougall file on my desktop. i like my desktop a bit cluttered just like a real file on a proper desk. Whe I want that recipe I go and look in that file. Sometimes I put it into a short term file called 'tonight's dinner'

I think a recipe archive linked to a file would be great, but a lot of work. Maybe someone could volunteer to do this project?

Hey, ya'll! Check this out: http://mcdougall-friendly-recipes.pbwiki.com/

I've just put in a few sample recipes to show the idea. Each recipe has its own page and can be easily printed by itself. Is this the sort of thing you all are talking about?

Other advantages:
* We can each add our own recipes.
* If the McDougalls give their permission, we could add the recipes from their newsletters.
* Recipes can be tagged with keywords that relate to it, so categories of recipes can be identified and browsed easily. For example, put 'rich' in the search box and you'll get a list of rich recipes (right now the beans and rice and the pb cookies).
* Anyone with the "invite key" can edit pages and add recipes. Right now the invite key is "flamingo" (I can change that if need be). Feel free to try out the edit feature and add a recipe of your own if you like.

Let me know what you think. If it seems like a good idea, we can post an announcement in the Lounge to invite others to participate.

Goodonya Tom! Now that is doing something useful/practical. I would love to check there for recipes. I spent hours yesterday doing fruitless searches for Refrigerator Oatmeal. I know I have it filed somewhere...

I would use this site and it would be self sustaining because everyone could add to it.

Would it just be for McDougalls Recipes, or for our own ones? Maybe it could be divided into 2 sections, or do as the ETL site does and list the contributor.

Susie

Yes, that's the idea! I'm so glad you like it! :o

It's for any recipes that are "McDougall friendly". The ones that are there now are just some things I like, that didn't come from any of Dr. McD's books. I wanted to make sure I was barking up the right tree by getting you all to look before requesting the McDougalls' permission to post their recipes there.

I vote for listing the contributor. Anyone who wants to can add to the archive as long as they have the "invite key" (which is "flamingo"). I can't wait for someone else to add a recipe. :-D

Tom I am a little scared I will "break" the wiki if I try to add a recipe. I have gotten as far as printing out the how to post details, but it is a little sketchy. I wanted to post my favourite soup recipe, but there is no soup catagory. Could you add one as I don't know how to do that yet?

Thnx Susie

I forgot to add the contributor, shucks.

Excellent! Thank you, Susie. Good job figuring it out. I was already asleep last night when you asked me to add the new category, so you would've been waiting a while if you hadn't proceeded on your own. I'm glad you did.

As far as "breaking" the wiki goes, you really can't. Every page is backed up and all previous versions are saved so that any changes can be backed out and we can always back up to a "good" version of the information if need be and then go from there. One of wikipedia's guidelines is "Be bold in editing." :)

I'm drafting a note to Dr. McDougall asking for his permission to include recipes from the newsletter. I'll let you know how he responds.

Thank you for participating. Anyone else care to add a recipe of their own? Susie, if you have ideas for clarifying the instructions for adding a recipe, please go ahead and edit that page, or send your ideas to me and I'll incorporate them. Sometimes I don't go into enough detail when I already know how to do something. :o
