I wonder if charging for participating (not mere reading) in the Discussion forums would reduce the number of attackers such as the recent entity whose porno posts still litter the site?

Even a simple charge such as $12/year (or even one-time) might cut the problem. Of course, the site could still be read and searched by anyone without charge.

Although I have worked as a moderator (a very unpleasant job), I am not familiar with the mechanics of paying and record-keeping. Perhaps the costs are higher than the rewards.

Oh, please DON'T start charging for this site! I'm getting ready to drop Dr. Fuhrman's site because he charges for it. The people here are so wonderful, and the recipes and support are great. I would hate to see people have to leave because it was no longer free.

I echo that. please don't start charging. There are way too many sites charging for access these days. Add it to the price to log on through a cable modem connection, and things start getting pricey.
This site is so wonderful, please keep it as it is. 8)

I could understand a small charge. I think Dr. Furhman's site is expensive also, but even a small charge here might help cut down on problems. Maybe the fact that so many places are doing that is because is helps cut down on the junk posts?

I've never moderated a site, or understand the process, but would love to hear from someone with experience in this area!

I cannot afford to pay for this site. I'm unemployed and struggling to pay my internet bill, let alone pay for subscriptions to all the forums that I read on the web.

I'm on this board every day and I haven't noticed any problems in a while. There are too many mothers will children to feed and older people, disabled people on fixed incomes that would be deprived of this wonderful site if there were a charge. It doesn't take that much effort to flag a problem when it occurs --let's all be vigilant and leave it at that

"Burgess. Posted: Sun Jun 24, 2007 6:53 am Post subject: Charging for participating in drmcdougall.com discussion?"

This thread was begun in June 2007 when we were being flooded daily (usually in the middle of the night to greet us in the morning) with links to porn, ads, inappropriate language, etc..

The administrators and monitors seem to have cleared that problem . I notice that I cannot connect with the website at the same time early each morning, and I assume they are doing a daily chek on the posts, and on the new members signing up, etc.

The original problem that Burgess posted about seemed to be solved several months ago.
