I'm an organic chemist in real life. While calories tracking isn't required in the McDougall plan, I do it for my own amusement. I use the MyFitnessPal app on my iPad. In order to maintain my weight, I set my daily goal to between 1550 and 1600 calories. Any more and I start to gain (really slow metabolism). Here is a typical McDougall day for me:
Breakfast:
Green tea and stevia
1/4 cup oat bran
1/4 cup steel-cut oats
1 Tbs ground flaxseed
1/2 cup blueberries
1 med ripe banana
Total calories breakfast = 400
Lunch
2 cups McDougall boxed Chunky Tomato Soup
Baby carrots
Mixed green salad with 2 Tbs fat-free dressing
1 cup fresh blackberries
Lunch calories = 465
Dinner
1/2 cup cooked quinoa
Homemade vegetable soup with beans
Large spinach/lettuce salad with raw vegetables
Balsamic vinegar dressing (no oil)
Mixed fruit salad (watermelon, cantaloupe, berries)
Dinner calories = 710
Calories for day= 1575
Some days I eat more starches and less fruit. Others I can't get enough fresh fruit and eat fewer starches to compensate. This was a fruit-hungry day
