Hi JuliaG.

Thanks for the tip on Everlasting Life on Georgia Ave. The wife and I will need to add that to the list of places to try.

You are definitely not alone...

Are you doing the MWL plan or the regular McDougall plan?

Welcome!

Hi Julie
You have a heck of a commute. I work on Constitution right between the Capitol (closer to that) and the White House. I haven't ventured out to things like Sticky Fingers, though I have tried some of their stuff sold in the stores. I really try to avoid the sweets.

I was trying to think if there is anything in the Annapolis area. Baltimore has so many places to eat. We will need to plan a meet up here soon. Usually we bring in the Baltimore folks too and have it at Vegetable Garden in Rockville. It's a good central place.

The wife and I would definitely attend a meet up in Rockville.

cool. I forgot who was visiting the area the last time we all got together. it was fun meeting folks from the board. I've became good friends with two people I met from the list. I know one of the folks that came out at our last meet up was Toadfood.

Hi all,

I am in Charlottesville, VA. I lost 30 lbs on McDougall plan last year. Kept it off for about six months, but now 8 lbs have crept back due to poor food choices. I bought Starch Solution last week and it is just what I needed to get back on track. So far, I have enjoyed Bean & Corn Enchiladas, Overnight Breakfast, Eggless Egg Salad, and Apple Crisp, all from the Starch Solution recipes.

We have a Vegan Meet-up group here, which I joined; and I know a few of the folks, but I haven't participated in their activities, yet. Fortunately my significant other is also vegan. Glad to meet you all. :-D

Hi Cathy. I know Richmond use to have a very good Veggie club, or maybe it was Charlottsville. Don't they do a veggie day?

BTW we have a free Veggie day up here on the GW campus. It is in September I believe.

Hi Scott, Hi Faith!

Yeah, my commute is a bear, but at least I get a lot of reading done. And the occasional nap, so it's not all bad.

Scott, I'm doing the regular plan because I just don't want to give up pasta along with everything else, at least not right now. But I've switched to whole wheat pasta and oil-free sauce (when I don't make it myself). I fell off the wagon for a week but I'm not giving up, and not trying to be perfect, just better. So far, it's not as bad as I'd feared.

I'm determined to get to Everlasting Life this week. Maybe for dinner or something. I'll let you all know how it goes when I do.

Julia

Hi Julia-

If you can make it Falls Church, the Loving Hut has become one of our favorites. We've gone every weekend for the past 3 or 4 weekends for dinner.

Also, what kind of sauce have you found that is oil free? I mean what specific brand?

Keep up the good work. I'm finding that trying to be better is better than trying to be perfect and failing.

Scott

Hi Faith,

Yes, Charlottesville has a Vegetarian Festival in the spring. In addition to the celebration of a no-meat diet, there is a very active animal rescue community here that is well-represented at the VegFest. We are fortunate to have Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, a no-kill shelter, as our primary animal shelter here.

We have a brand-new Whole Foods to replace the older, smaller one; and a local grocery store called Integral Yoga that both carry McDougall products and many other vegan choices. There is also a smaller health food store called Rebeccas.

There are Indian and Chinese restaurants here that provide vegan choices; as well as sandwich shops and coffee houses. :)

I like to see that growth down that way. I know us Southerners aren't easy to change :)
