I jog 3 mornings a week with a friend. I'm awake by the time I've thrown on my clothes and driven to the track.

Other mornings I try to do yoga. My problem is that I really hate to jump out of bed and start exercising. But that's the only practical thing do to on a work day. Doesn't make sense to shower first or to eat breakfast first.

Any ideas or just do it anyway? Thanks.

Schermel,

It sounds like you ARE just 'doing it anyway'! Is it both the jogging and the yoga that you are reluctant upon which to get started?

Do you have any flexibility with your schedule? Is there time for a hot drink and a light breakfast first? A little starter fuel is highly recommended anyway.

Readers ask: Does working out before breakfast burn more fat, muscle, or hurt my workout?

Other than that, #1 baseline motivator is to connect with your WHY. Why do you exercise? Don't tell me to 'be healthy', be more specific than that. Connect with your reasons on an emotional level. Flash forward to how you feel when you're done, how you feel all day from having exercise, and how you rest at night because you did.

Thanks for replying. I think I need to be more specific with my "why" I also like your suggestion on another post about just starting with something very small at first--like setting out your clothes or putting on your shoes. I could just start with a downward dog and build from there. (My yoga instructor says "A dog a day").

I've been doing your 4-minute bursts by the way and they seem to work quite well. Sometimes I can only manage 45 seconds, but am working my way up.

Schermel,

Do you see how many wins are in your short paragraph?

~ The idea of the 'why' appeals to you instinctively - recognizing that is stage one and now I challenge you to take it to stage to - make a list.

~ You are drawn to 'one small thing' and building upon it (love the 'dog a day'). What is your one small thing today? Do that every day for a week, and if you get 5 out of 7 you are in baby!

~ You are doing the Burst Training, fabulous! And one minute bursts are just one style. You can do 30 seconds, then once you recover, do it again. You will be able to monitor your success by extending those, which you have to 45 seconds. This is great progress.

Nice work.

Lani
