Momof4, just a tip on those lunges...
Many of us are not aware, but more often than not when we just press into a lunge, the knee rolls to the inside of the ankle, putting pressure there and causing injury. Also, there is a tendency to hyperflex the knee beyond the arch of the foot or toes - also applying too much pressure.
AND there is a tendency to lean forward into the already unstable position (as described above), applying even more pressure to the knee. Keeping the spine vertical and body weight more centered offsets this tendency, which is what I suspect you may have been putting in place when you used the chair for support.
