Last year my local library began a program where we can borrow seeds, then return more after we save the seeds from what we grew. This particular program was used as a model:

http://www.richmondgrows.org/

They offered free classes on how to save heirloom seeds and then we were able to check out seeds. The great thing is that they carry seeds that do well in our area. There were some unusual vegetable and flowers to choose from. They even lend out small garden tools. Before I purchase anything for this year, I'm going to find out what's available for loan.

This program in my local library was started by a young man who is a library employee who has a passion for gardening and good food. I understand these seed libraries are becoming popular all over the USA. Maybe there is one near you. Until I saw the class advertised in the local paper, I had no idea this was available.

I have never ever heard of such a thing. I know our local gardeners do have Seed Swaps. I haven't gotten into collecting and keeping seeds yet and don't grown anything too odd, so I am not sure how well I'd do at one, but been wanting to try it.

I like the idea of seed swaps, think I'll explore my area for that possibility as well too, thanks.
