Fructose and denovo lipogenesis

I have heard Dr McDougall say that denovo lipogenesis does not occur from starch but does occur with fructose especially from HFCS and added table sugars. My question is about fruit. Does the fructose in fruit cause this? Does the fiber play any role in ameliorating this?
