Hello Jeff,

I am eating a lot of oats lately and I am getting 15-17% of calories from fat everyday. Is this OK, because fat is not coming from overt fats or it will affect my health?

(Sorry, if you don't always understand what I am exactly asking. English is not my native language :) )

Thank you!

This is where I am seeing a bulk of my fat as well in the morning, when I eat my oatmeal. Since it's a whole grain and the fact I need 10% fat in my diet I figured this was okay. Never really did any checking.

Oats & oatmeal are an excellent food and are about 16% fat.

The only way to know ones total fat intake is to analyze ones complete dietary intake of all foods consumed.

The recommended eating plan is based on a variety of starchy veggies, intact whole grains and beans and includes plenty of fruits & veggies.

Oatmeal is only 16% fat so if your total fat intake is over that, then there have to be other foods maintaining and/or raising it above what the oatmeal is.

I would like to see the total intake for a day.

I eat oatmeal and on occasion also eat a sprouted whole grain tortilla wrap which is on Dr. M's list of approved breads and contains 3.5 grams of fat which is from the whole grain and sesame seeds. There is no added oil. I assume because Dr. M recommended it that it is ok to eat. The amount of oatmeal I eat also contains about 3.5 gms fat.
I like to mix corn and beans and half cup of corn contains 2.5 grams of fat.

That's not what I have as info on corn:
http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/veg ... cts/2422/2

That shows 1/2 cup of yellow corn kernels have 1 gram of fat--5 calories out of a total of 66, so corn is about 8% fat. Black beans (as a for instance) have 1 gram of fat, 8 calories out of 227, so they are less than 4% fat. If you are eating other things during the day such as spinach (10% fat), cabbage (2% fat) and brown rice (6% fat) just as examples, the total fat percentage for the day is not going to get over 15% from the fat in the oatmeal alone, or the wraps either. But if, as Jeff says, you are adding other foods that are higher in fat, such as avocados or nuts, on a regular basis, you would bring that average higher.
