Hi Jeff. I am a little confused on your recommendations. I am not sure if whole potatoes or potato soup is best for satiety, or whole corn or grits for that matter is best. One is more processed/blended but lower in calorie density. I do understand your stance on smoothies. But I am finding soups rather filling and studies seem to support this. Thank you for you time.

I am a little confused by your question :)

Sounds like you are mixing up a few different things.

Studies have shown, that soups, when used as a pre-load, as a appetizer to an entree, have a large impact on satiety, hunger and lowering the total caloric intake of the overall meal. This has been discussed here

Potatoes, on the satiety scale, which tested whole foods against other whole foods, were the highest rated.

Perhaps you can clarify your confusion by being more specific in which recommendation you are confused about and what about it confuses you?

My question is that now that I'm close to my goal weight, its more of a struggle to lose the last pounds. I am wondering if it would be better to have the potato or the potato soup, the whole plain corn or soupy grits? Or is there not much of a difference?

The last few lbs are always the hardest as there is less room for any lee-way.

Lowering the calorie density of your diet along with being active, will be the best ways.

In regard to the foods you asked, a potato soup, made with potatoes and vegetables, will be lower in calorie density than just a potato.

The corn and the corn grits (if made with just ground whole grain corn and water, will be close in calorie density and both of them are fairly low.

I would recommend you review this thread
