Understand that the terminology used around food can be very confusing as there are culinary classifications, nutrition classifications and botanical classifications and they are all different.
So not to confuse you but botanically it is a fruit, but it considered a vegetable in the world of nutrition and culinary arts and I would call them a starchy vegetable (like corn) though not a starch (like rice, oatmeal).
So, in our world, think of them as a vegetable.
