jeff question - Iodine

Hi Jeff,

I have been Mcdougalling very strictly for nearly 2 years now. I have just fallen pregnant and was wondering what the advice is on Iodine. I don't really eat added salt much and I don't buy the one fortified with iodine.

Do you or Dr Mcdougall recommend supplements?
Are there any links to this?

Thanks very much
Julia

Thanks so much for your help.
I appreciate your prompt reply!

(I also thoroughly enjoyed your presentations at the Advanced Study Weekend that I have seen on the internet.)

Yes, as most people in the U.S. consume more than sufficient iodine in their diets, supplementation with iodone is unnecessary.

Here is a rather comprehensive article on Iodine I found from the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State: http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/minerals/iodine/

Based on the food table, it seems we are unlikely to be Iodine deficient (eat your potatoes), though admittedly content varies with soil. I eat a little seaweed at least once a week also.
