Jeff,

I took another look at your discussions of calorie density and weight maintenance.

I wonder if it is possible to construct a meat and/or egg and/or dairy based diet that is low to moderate in calorie density.

I realize that even if it were possible to construct such a diet, it would still be unhealthy because such a diet would include high levels of saturated fat and dietary cholestserol. However, could such a diet give someone the "appearance" of health due to low to moderate calorie density?

Is a bacon and eggs for breakfast, top sirloin for dinner type diet a recipie for weight gain in addition to other problems?

I'm really curious about this as well, mainly because my brother and plenty of my friends all lift weights regularly and eat a meat based diet, but with it they eat broccoli and brown rice or sweet potatoes (I turned my brother onto these actually haha).

But he eats 10 egg whites every morning for breakfast with oatmeal, and lunch and dinner involve 8 oz. of chicken and broccoli and 1 cup starch. He eats a lot.. But he claims that he eats under 2000 calories/day (he's trying to "cut down"). I mean, by the looks of it, he appears super healthy, but I obviously know that it's not good to be eating that way.

Great question, it's got to be possible, that's how you see so many normal looking people while eating meat. When I say while consuming meat, I mean more than 10%, may be 30-50% calories come from flesh. What I have observed is, these people are aware of what they eat and how they cook etc. They avoid processed and refined foods. I'm not sure about the long term effects, good or bad or no difference.

Of course.

Egg White - 236 cal/lb
Plain Low Fat Yogurt - 286 cal/lb
Pacific Cod - 385 cal/lb
Tuna - 600 cal/lb
Turkey Breast - 612 cal/lb
Poached Egg - 650 cal/lb
Bison - 650 cal/lb

Weight is only one criteria of health and so maintaining a healthy weight does not guarantee anyone excellent health.

I can vouch for that
I was a skinny salad and meat eater. My thinking was - protein and nutrient dense veggies.
Not so smart.
Thin isn't everything
I still do lots of veggies (my favorite food) and starches.
I feel and look better and my bloodwork is good.
Protein did nothing for my kidney disease or IBS , starches make a huge difference.
I am in my fifties now and what I eat shows up much more in every aspect of my health.
This has for sure been my experience.

As much as I appreciate the testimonials from those who lost weight and reversed their weight related diseases, I appreciate these so much more. I'm 36 years old, skinny and athletic my entire life. I've always tried to eat healthy, I used to make sure I ate my yogurt and fish regularly. Then in my search for "healthy foods", I stumbled onto Dr. M a little over a year ago. It just makes sense, and with a completely supportive husband, we switched overnight. Cleaned out the kitchen and went shopping.

Although I'm in perfect health now, my goal is to remain that way the rest of my life.

Thanks, the name is actually my dog's. I updated my avatar so you can see my babies. IndyAnna is on the left and her sister Chewbacca is on the right.

My good experiences aren't as grand as others. I wasn't ill so I didn't have any bloodwork ran before or since changing to this WOE.

Things I have noticed are my energy is greater, bowel movements are regular, and although I don't weigh myself, don't even own a scale, I know I've lost a little weight without trying. Can see it and feel it in how my clothes fit. Same for my husband, he lost about 20lbs without trying. Same for him by the way, no medical issues when we switched.

Love finding new recipes and enjoying this way of eating.

As Jeff stated - body weight is not the only indicator of health. I have never been overweight.... and was not eating a healthy diet... am not healthy now. The doctor always tells me I am the healthiest looking sick person he has ever seen....(that does not make me feel better - in fact - it is frustrating).

Indy Anna
I can relate
I ate yoghurt, tuna , salmon, chickenbreast and huge salads.
I never considered if it was logical.
McDougall makes sense (to me)
It's a way that is possible for all of us on this earth to stay healthy with foods that are available and sustainable.
My husband is on board too - he is McDougall regular plan and I am more MMWL due to health reasons.
It works and my husband has tons of energy.
All the best to you and you hubby.
