I am still not feeling great, but hopefully, I will do better soon. I hope it's just a bug that will go away and not something dietary.

I really miss the gym.

Thank you both of you!

I have still been sleepy lately, but I finally pushed myself and got back to the gym. I've been having fun with it. Well, someone said my life was "boring" recently, and that along with other things really pushed me to get back to it. I know I need to get out more. Today, I went to the gym, and I went for a walk to the store, just to get out. I tend to be a home-body. I am feeling pretty good today.

I've been thinking that I've been coming down with a cold, and I was a little nervous. Then I realized that it was because of the decaf tea. I've started to relapse into that, but I will replace it with something else soon. It is really difficult for me to replace hot drinks with something that is sugar-free and caffeine-free! I make iced hibiscus tea, but I add a little sugar. I also make lemonade. Maybe I should try water with lemon again. With my throat being so sore, however, I want something hot. Too bad I have to suck it up and try hot water with honey and lemon, or hot hibiscus tea!

B: Mashed potatoes
S: A few Mary's crackers
L: Rice and beans (with pepper sauce), saag aloo
S: Blueberry smoothie (blueberries + date + almond milk)
D: Probably same as lunch
D: Decaf earl grey tea, ginger tea, water

Exercise: 30 minutes weights, 10 minutes rowing machine, 20 minutes yoga, 10k steps
Meditation: 15 + 10 minutes

I am getting better at the rowing machine, I can do 10 minutes, I do 2 intervals or 5 minutes so I can get some water in between!

This journal could also be titled, "Eat more rice, drink more water". I am finding the combination of both extremely helpful lately. Surprisingly, I have less sugar cravings if I make sure that I drink enough water.

I am doing well lately. I've been out exploring more and doing more things than I used to do previously. This is unprecedented for me. I took tennis lessons, started going for walks by myself, reached out to friends, and went back to my speaking club...all with the knowledge that nothing bad is going to happen. I did not pass out any of those times. I did not have an asthma attack.

The numbness in my hands has been getting worse though. This is going to take some thinking on my part to figure out what exactly I am eating that is making it worse. I have had some chocolate lately, maybe cutting that out will help. I am having some fatigue/sleeping problems, maybe that is also related. I've also been eating some regular plan foods, tofu, peanuts, avocado, in higher portions than what is allowed. I should be watching that.

I have been making a point to do yoga and mediate this past week. I am finding it very helpful. I just need to get more sleep. I have been staying up later than usual and it hasn't been good for me.

I just need to make a few more tweaks to my diet, and start getting back to the gym, and hopefully all will be well...

Hi Loveskale

It does sound that you may have a vitamin or mineral deficiency, with the numbness. I occasionally get that too, in bed before sleep? I think it could be one of the B's. I hope you can resolve that quickly and easily.

About the regular plan foods, I am interested in your experience as I am using those too. I developed health problems on MWL and so am relaunching here with the full plan, and it is a little scary, tho maybe I'm just used to the restriction mentality

How are you including them, in terms of quantity and frequency? How is that working out for you?

I'm using seeds and have some avocado and considering tofu too, which I enjoy. Have to remember that these are good, wholesome foods and Dr McD recommends them. And a whole different thing to add small amounts of these than to go whack on processed cr*p. But I am a little fearful!

Wishing you well,
Jennifer

Oh, the numbness in the hands in a whole can of worms. One year, three physicals, and 5 specialists later, it is carpal tunnel / Reynaud's phenomenon.

I have been eating too much almond milk, peanut butter, tofu, cashews, and avocado. A little bit of one of each is OKAY for me but altogether it gets to be too much.

I am sorry to hear you had problems on MWL. I prefer to eat somewhere in between MWL and the regular plan...I think...

Doing well these days. Just busy.

I've been doing a good job of doing yoga every morning, even if it's just sun salutations. I'm making sure that I drink my water. I've made a few curries, but I know I need to take it easy on the tomato dishes due to heartburn. I've also been making a point to meditate, which is helpful.

I need to post here more often so I stay focused on my goal of eating healthy.

B: Rice, curried black eyed peas w/ fenugreek leaves
L: Rice, beans w/ peppers, onion, herbs, and spices
D: Same, also brown rice w/ jerk veggies and tofu
S: Vegan protein bar, blueberry smoothie w/ date, goji berries, and almond milk
D: LOTS of water

Exercise: 20 minutes yoga, 20 minutes run, 10 minutes weights, 10k steps
Meditation 10 + 10 minutes

Running was awful, my legs and feet hurt terribly. I figured it's over due to replace my running shoes so I went and got another pair for a good deal.

I'm still hanging in there, I am just a busy girl lately, I do not believe it. I've worked so hard to get here. Now I need to continue to focus on my health!

I've started playing tennis, which is a lot of fun. Also, I've been making sure that I get 10k steps, or as close as I can get there. I've had a lot of good success with this.

I just need to focus on eating less chocolate (uh oh!) and less caffeine (which comes with a lot of sugar for me).

I just finished a workout and ate a bowl-full of broccoli and some potato. It was awesome.

Enjoy this beautiful weather.

Re: Eat More Rice.

Yesterday I was quite sick. I was fatigued and short of breath. I felt like my muscles had been removed and been replaced with rocks. All I could do was lay down and sleep. I was thinking, "Oh boy, I am getting this weird dehydration thing again". I started to think about getting more electrolyte hydrator, and how at this point I should just buy a big tub of it. I was a little disappointed at how much it would cost. Then, it hit me. Or I can just follow the McDougall plan again to fix this problem, and it won't cost me any extra!

My birthday last week was great, however, I received a lot of chocolate which I decided would be okay to eat (Spoiler alert: It wasn't). So, I had someone help me get rid of the chocolate.

I have been making socializing a priority, which is something I really needed to do. Following the McDougall plan helped me get off my meds and outside and talking to people, which I haven't done in years. Sadly, these people like to eat out a lot, and know that I love food (I talk about cooking a lot). So that meant take-out Greek, Indian, and Italian food.

Well, it's time to make eating on plan a priority again. I am a good cook, I might as well invite them over to dinner (which I have). As of today, I've also given up caffeine. I had turmeric tea this morning.

I haven't been exercising in such a long time (too busy socializing), I sadly had to start over with my running routine. But, with trying to socialize, I took tennis lessons with my friend, which has been fun.

Currently, I have beans cooking in the pressure cooker. I also have onions, peppers, garlic, chipotle, mushrooms, fresh parsley, and cumin all cooked up and waiting for me to add the beans (along with some tomatoes and spinach, and later cilantro).

I figure I need to eat some more green vegetables. I can easily steam some broccoli or peas (or something else) to help supplement what I'm eating. I had peas and potatoes for breakfast, and it was great!

I just need a healthy snack for work now. I got a nice cup which I add lemon slices too, and I drink a lot of water. Everyone is jealous of my neat cup and think that it's a good idea (it has a lid and a straw, makes it easy to drink more water!)

I might go to the gym later, than again, I might need some more time to recover. I am still a little lightheaded from yesterday. I have some hydrator, and might buy a few individual packets of it, no need to buy a large tub.

At least, that's the plan so far.

B: Broccoli and smoothie (blueberries + goji + date)
L: Rice and beans (beans, peppers, onions, chipotle, parsley, onion, tomato, oregano, and cilantro)
D: Same
D: Turmeric tea x 2, electrolyte thing x 2, Gatorade, sooo much water w/ lemon

Exercise: 10 minutes weights, 10 minutes walk
Meditation: 10 + 10 minutes

Got a huge migraine today. I think it was the electrolyte thing!!! Ah, well. I am so exhausted after this day I cannot tell you. I couldn't even run! It was not fun. This is not healthy. I just need to keep up with eating better. I have a lot to consider with cleaning up my diet and what needs to be taken out. It kinda reminds me of starting the elimination diet.

Hopefully I won't be so sick tomorrow.

Also, broccoli, while extremely tasty, is not a satisfying breakfast!

Still getting tired/dehydrated. Unfortunately, hot chocolate is the only thing that works??? I guess it could be caffeine withdrawal, but it's worse than anything I remember...oh well...

B: Rice and beans (beans seasoned with onions, garlic, herbs, and peppers)
L: Soup, 2 servings
D: Same
D: 4 ginger teas (honey and almond milk) 2 hot chocolates (almond milk, cocoa, vanilla, sugar), Gatorade, lots of water

Exercise: 10 minutes weights, 31 minute run, 10k steps (May or may not do yoga later)
Meditation: 10 minutes

I need to find a healthy alternative to all this tea/hot chocolate...I'll see...

Hi Loveskale, I have an idea for you. Consider the chronic exhaustion being from the sugar you're eating? There's some sugar in plant milk (unless you specifically get the unsweetened kind), and the honey, sugar, and Gatorade are all coming together to perhaps overload your system with sugar. The exhaustion is the "dump" phase after a sugar high.
Also, do you have hayfever or seasonal allergies? The migraines could be actual sinusitis headaches. Check to see if you're running a low-grade fever (100* or less), which with headaches can signal sinusitis. Cocoa could help or make it worse, it affects different people differently.

I am encouraged to see these posts about eating rice. I try to keep some cooked up at all times. I buy organic brown rice in 25# amounts. It is my primary grain, while i also change-it-up with other grains as well. Rice is inexpensive, and kind to the environment. Those are two reasons why I do not, as a rule, choose quinoa as my grain choice.

I do not have gluten issues so I also consume regular rolled oats, millet, barley, and whole grain cornmeal. Over the eight years of eating plant-based diet, I have found that whole grains are the least available to the American public, especially in our restaurants. Panda Express in St. Louis does offer brown rice, but in our part of Missouri, (small town-rural) we can only get white rice in restaurants.

I have found resources for whole grains and many beans not commonly available in our grocery stores.

Thank you for this post on rice and the discussion it has spawned.
