Based on my experience, I would recommend against testing in groups. You might have a strong adverse reaction to one kind of nut, such as almond, but a much weaker reaction to other nuts. If you test them as a group, the strong reactor will be diluted.
The better alternative is to test one food in each category and then, if there is no adverse reaction, move on to the next category. Eventually you will come back and test a second food in a category. This spiralling approach will allow you to fairly quickly expand your diet. But don't eat any food you haven't tested in the full formal way (ideally one food per week to allow time for reactions to appear and for your system to "flush").
Does that take time? Yes, but once done you probably won't need to redo them (unless you get an ambiguous result).

Thanks for starting this! I may be the ED's biggest fan! I was facing going on disability from work last fall due to long standing chronic pain from Polymyalgia Rheumatica. After 3 wks on my ED, I knew I had the answer to my prayers.
Though I'm mostly done with my elmination diet and now for the most part have pain free days, I try to continue to be on the lookout for how foods are affecting me, not only in regards to pain, but also energy levels, mood, etc.
At some pont I'll post the initial food list that I ate from that really cleared up my symptoms but for now will just say that I quickly determined definite reactions to dairy, msg and possibly other food additives, soy, and citrus. Things that took me a bit longer to determine (denial?) were coffee (limited black tea seems to be ok), alcohol, and possibly gluten, and just processed foods in general. I did not notice a pain reaction to meat cooked at home where I could control the seasonings, but my energy levels are definitely higher since I gave it up.
Reactions have ranged from headaches, to GI issues, to facial swelling, anxiety/depression and of course muscle aches and pains. My reactions were often severe, particularly in the first 3-4 mos of my ED and testing foods, but the longer I am on this way of eating any slip ups are more subtle, but still noticeable, mostly a general achiness and fatigue--not as severe as before, but something I am wanting mroe and more to avoid.
I was very careful about testing the nightshade family and turns out doesn't seem to be a trigger for me now, but I have a tendency to reduce or elminate consumption of those when I begin to feel "off," since tomatoes and peppers in particular, and other very acidic foods such as vinegar, wine, fruit juices and citrus severely aggravated another AI condition I dealt with in the past (now in remission).. Just kind of a habit of mine now.

I have not decided on a particular order to test foods in. I keep waffling between hitting the most suspect foods first versus ones I'm fairly sure aren't a problem so that I can expand my diet. Or, since it's summer and I really prefer lots of salads to cooked foods, testing whether eating the safe produce raw causes any problems. (I believe Burgess made this suggestion on his blog.)
Some reactions have been documented well enough, multiple times, in the past that I don't need to test the foods again. This includes tofu (causes throat to swell, progressively worse with each consumption) and corn (stabbing pains in gut; increase in current foot pain which is possibly nerve-related; significant decrease in rate of weight loss). Chocolate seems to be causing inflammation of a shoulder/neck chronic issue that leads to dizziness, but I expect, like blue and the coffee, I'll retest it because I'm in denial about a life without chocolate.
The top suspect foods to test for me include:
soy (other than tofu)
wheat (if positive, test other gluten grains)
tomatoes (if positive, test other nightshades)
I'd also like to test many of the other foods on Frieda's list. I will probably take one week off the testing protocol in mid-September when a McDougalling friend is staying with me. We'll likely have a meal or two out plus the catered meal at McDougall and Barnard's talk, and do a lot of cooking together as she's quite skilled in the kitchen.
How long did it take on the basic ED before you started seeing real results?
