Late last summer I broke my arm (the first break that I've every had, and it was minor), but I couldn't ride my bike for three months. Actually my bone density is really good, but too much weight (mine) landed on my upper arm when I tripped.
Goodness! The same thing happened to me last spring. I tripped and used my hand to break the fall causing my wrist to snap. I had been biking, swimming and walking like mad to try and get to the point where I could enter a local mini-triathalon and that put a stop to that. Ironically I had just gotten down to my current weight of 139 when it happened. The problem was I was using exercise to bring my weight down instead of calorie-density - so I couldn't maintain my lower weight when the exercise stopped.
As you may have noted when you read my journal, I now use calorie-density to bring my weight down and exercise has become an 'add-on' to diet, not a replacement for it. Mostly I exercise for mood control as I am subject to the other SAD. Today we finished our walking challenge at work, and I ended up with >250 miles in seven weeks

- so small changes, like exercsing 30 minutes a day, do add up over time. Remember the acronym FIT (frequency, intensity, time).
BTW, YOU are doing GREAT! Keep up the good work, and never stop trying and learning. And stay with your journal even when you aren't doing so great. The act of writing things down can be very enlightening and can generate helpful tips from your fellow travellers.
