It's been better than a year since I followed my health journey here on McDougall forum--so long ago that I decided to start fresh. Before, I was battling a major rash, some possible food allergies, diabetic blood sugar control issues, and stage one kidney disease.
Where am I today? Thankfully, I turned around the train-wreck of weight regain, and I'm down 14.5 pounds this month, alone. I'm exercising 30 minutes daily on the treadmil and eating way more fresh produce than before. Here's where I am today in terms of what I'm doing in way of diet.
I regained all the weight lost and topped out at 235 for a 5 foot one gal. Today, I'm 220.4 and thankful that I'm feeling more in control. I don't eat sugar, stevia, or substitutes, but do eat a little raw honey and pure maple syrup. I eat lots of fresh veggies, eat 3 fruits a day, eat cruciferous daily, and focus on lower glycemic grains as starch.
Legumes are limited to 1/2 cup max daily. I'm not eating dairy, eggs, or meat.
I eat almost no oil--but to coat a pan--and I do eat a small amount of nuts/seeds a day--not more than an ounce. (It keeps my fingertips from cracking.) I eat a sliver of avocado once in a while too--usually in a dressing.
My focus on this journey is to improve my health, to make food choices that improve my health status--especially kidney health, not just help me lose weight. I do monitor protein consumption and try to keep protein grams under 40g per day.
Thanks for reading my journey. Feel free to drop by and follow along.
