DH got up early this morning and made a pot of chili. The house smells great! I love how chili and spaghetti sauce taste after simmering all day long; now we will have some wonderful chili for dinner tonight. :D

I slept in until about half an hour ago. Wow! I wasn't even up past midnight, go figure. Anyway, I'm off to the kitchen to chop lettuce and layer myself a Farley's Bowl.

Am making Thai sticky rice with mango right now. I looked at the fat content of coconut milk--wow! It's really high; 12 grams of saturated fat per 1/2 cup. So, I will be using soy milk with coconut extract in it instead. And a lot less sugar. The girls and I love mango, so I am looking forward to this.

My attempt at tofu adobo wasn't very good. I made it a while back, and it was okay for tofu, but what we found we really like is the sauce. So we are having adobo sauce over rice with greens for dinner. Still high in sodium, but we don't eat it too often, so I'm not worried about it.

Am no longer eating the Farley's Bowls for lunch and dinner, just lunch mostly, so the weight loss is crawling now, but as long as it goes down and I don't feel like I am missing out on something, I'm good with it.

The Thai sticky rice was wonderful! The soy milk with coconut extract made a great substitute for the coconut milk. Tonight was less interesting, but still filling: spaghetti w/marinara sauce, boiled potato, lima beans.

I ground wheat and made a whole wheat baguette this evening. It is heavy, but good, and it only takes 2-3 inches to fill you up. I made potato soup to go with it and also served sliced roma tomatoes. It was a nice meal.

The weight is moving much slower now, but at least it is moving down. :)

I made a sort of hummusy dish last night:
brown rice, artichoke hearts, garlic, chickpeas, lemon juice, vegetable broth, and 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil instead of the 1/2 cup of tahini the recipe called for.

It was really good! I just cooked it all together and then added extra lemon juice at serving time.

Hi Amy! I just copied and pasted this from a post I made a few weeks ago:

A Farley's Bowl is just a type of eating that I learned when SactoBob was posting meals on his blog. His wife, Farley, said she began serving meals layered in bowls in order to reduce the work involved in making McDougall versions of traditional meals. She puts greens on the bottom of the bowl, then adds a scoop of brown rice, a few beans, veggies, berries (I like blackberries), a sweet potato, and Bob adds a few walnuts. That is a Farley's Bowl. I think I am the only one who calls it that, but I was inspired by how easy it was and want to remember where the idea, for me at least, came from.

When I am in a hurry, this seems to do the trick. She also made a roasted vegetable dish that is wonderful!

Yesterday I tried a recipe from the food section. It was amazing! Quinoa, almond milk, cinnamon, mandarin oranges and honey. The original used two kinds of fresh fruit, but I used what I had. It smelled like baklava cooking--so good! My children were in the kitchen sniffing, and a bit dissapointed that I didn't make the "real thing." :) I would definitely recommend it. It's under a post about what to do with kamut and quinoa.

I just purchased the ingredients for that recipe today! So glad to hear it turned out so well, 'cuz the recipe sure does look yummy!

Also thanks for detailing the Farley bowl -- that also sounds like something I need to try. :-)

I'd love to hear how it tastes with the original ingredients, though I don't know how you could mess it up with fresh oranges and blackberries or with almonds. :)

I made the most amazing minestrone soup today by following tips and basic soup-making instructions from michaelswarm's blog site. Yummo! Here is the first bowl:

I didn't have any canned white beans and did not want to wait to cook a batch, so I used some leftover lima beans that I had. It was really good!

DH cooked dinner for tonight and left it in the refrigerator for the children and I. Here is a picture, it is a couscous salad from Mary McDougall:

Have been having the same breakfast and lunch for the past 3 weeks: oatmeal, navel orange, minestrone or black bean soup. Dinners have varied: risotto, spaghetti, couscous, burritos, quinoa, hummus and veggies. Overall really good.

I had two good experiences at work the past week and a half. The first time we had a meeting and they brought in pizza. I just had a drink. Yesterday, they brought in breakfast tacos. People laughed when I said I could have one if it did not have cheese, eggs, or bacon on it. They laughed because they ALL had that on it. :) I knew ahead of time that they would be serving those, so I made sure to have my oatmeal before going in.

I am really hungry right now, just got home from work, but am finding it doesn't take as much willpower to eat right as it used to. It also helps to have things in the refrigerator that I can eat right now.
