So I feel like Sunday's cooking was kind of a bust. The pot pie looks like it turned out ok (haven't tasted it yet). I wasn't sure what to do about the gravy, cuz broth+cornstarch doesn't always taste right to me. I used Isa's chickpea gravy instead, but I hope I didn't mess it up by making a double batch. Guess I'll find out at lunch.

The white beans turned out awful! :crybaby: Oh, I was so pissed. I think I used a bit too much water since i only did half the bag of beans. I pureed them to get the texture right, but it still didn't taste right. i really hate to waste food, so I ate them as a sauce over rice & broccoli, but I didn't enjoy them at all. The trash goes out today & they might go out with it. If I keep them, I'll be mad every time I eat them. But if I throw them away, then I need to cook something else for the week. Guess I better get to looking at recipes. :\

The potpie was meh. Edible, but not great. Still, I have a small casserole dish full, so I'll eat it. I did look up some recipes & I'll make SusanV's dirty little secret soup tomorrow. soup That should carry me through til the weekend.

Last night I went to the store with my cuz & didn't get home till 11. Maybe my fibro is improving...I could never be out & about at that time of night. :P Afterward, I washed & detangled my hair & started twisting. At 12:30, I wasn't even sleepy, but I went on to bed b/c I knew the kids would be here early. I woke up after 7, not feeling as good as the last few days, but still ok. So I am good with that...just taking what I can get.

breakfast pineapple sweet potato pudding w/ a splash of almond milk
lunch field peas, rice, pot pie
dinner steamed broccoli, carrots, peppers, rice. 3 veggie potstickers. they weren't even worth it.
snack banana ice cream if I have one. I've been kinda busy today (watching the kiddies & trying to finish twisting my hair), so I haven't really had the time or inclination to snack. I guess busy is good. ;-)

Yesterday & today have been uneventful, foodwise. Still trying to finish the pot pie. I had some for breakfast & all I could think was that I was tired of it. Today we are finally getting a taste of fall weather. I am glad b/c I really don't care for hot weather. But I have been so snacky today! Tonight we have a birthday party for my cousins, at Red Lobster of all places! Yuck. In other news, my mom tried some Northland cranberry juice blends. I had one sip of blueberry blackberry acai & it was too sweet/too tart all at once. That was weird.

The sleep restriction is going well. I haven't awakened feeling like crap warmed over yet, so that's a huge plus! Even though I still wake up in the middle of the night, I notice I am much less anxious about being able to get back to sleep.

breakfast pot pie, a few brown rice crackers
snack blueberry tea, sweet potato pudding, handful baby carrots
lunch dirty little secret soup, rice
snack I might have a tangerine before the party...don't want to be starving.
restaurant dinner planning on plain baked potato & broccoli. No hot tea w/ cream *sobs* or Boston (sweetened) ice tea *sniffs*! I will be strong & bring a truvia sweetened crystal lite packet for my water.

Hi eri:

Hey glad to hear that the sleep restriction is working for you! Think it's working for me too. Only up once a night last two nights and sleeping pretty soundly. Still getting up pretty early though. Yesterday was better than today, I was more alert. Today for some reason, I am lagging quite a bit. Maybe the fog here, not far from Coast of California. It's strange to me that only some fibro folks are bothered by that. Does the weather bother your fibro?

Good luck with eating out, you look like you got a solid plan. Well, in between the sniffing and sobbing

LOL! I really am sorry about the hot tea! I *heart* black tea loaded w/ cream & sugar. But I'm a lil addicted so I cut myself off for October.

Well the plan was an epic fail. That tangerine wasn't enough food b/c our table was late & so was our food. So I ate two biscuits even though I don't love them. I forgout that birthday party=cake & ate a small piece before I even thought about it (3 bites). :(

Lessons learned:
a) Eat a small meal before outside meals, not a piece of fruit.
b) Cake isn't that great. Really.

The plan didn't work, but you learned something. So, I wouldn't call it an epic fail. If I were going to choose a fruit to delay hunger, I'd probably pick a banana or apple over a tangerine. Those tend to satisfy me longer. More fiber. If you like dried figs, 3 of those would give the same amount of fiber as an apple and 2 bananas. But you're right. A small meal is probably better than just a piece of fruit. Choose something you know will keep you full longer. Maybe a cup o' soup would be nice.

Hi eri:

Oh, I love black tea too. My Grandparents had a dairy farm and my family always says I drink my tea with the juice of one cow. I like it creamy too. My friend sent me loose leaf Earl Grey tea last month, it is beyond good. But now we are not supposed to have caffeine - so I guess tea is out for me. I think I'll have to find out why we have to give this up and then decide -- I am too much of an addict, but would consider limiting to say one cup, maybe, kinda....

I am sleeping better 10PM to 5AM. I think I would sleep longer, but my Siamese cats believe I should get up at the same time as my neighbors. They are very insistent about this --it is completely annoying!

I think my insomnia of last week where I stayed up all night was about caffeine actually. I had some decaff coffee in the evening. It is apparently not entirely decaff, still a little bit in there, as I have now read.

Hope your sleep continues well and oh no -- you ate the cake. Truly it looks sooo good but generally disappoints no end!

AA--Right you are. I should've just had a bowl of soup. Next time...ie Saturday night.

LM--My family always asks, "Would you like some tea with your sugar?"

Hi Eri! I enjoyed reading your posts, I know what you mean with eating old favorites, ie cake or Sad foods and then the memories are better than reality turns out to be.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for stopping by carollynne! I have been doing really well today. We had a community yard sale early this morning through lunch. This time I was so prepared! I ate some soup & rice before we left & packed baked okra, 2 apples, sweet potato pudding & a water. That really kept me going b/c we didn't get home until 4. I ate another quick bowl of soup & now I'm at a surprise birthday party for my cousin. I will not deviate from the plan!

There was almost nothing for me to eat, so in a way that was good. I had some crudites. & a tiny bit of fruit that was on top of a dessert. I skipped out before the cake was even cut w/ the excuse that my infant niece needed to get home. I'm glad its over. My sister's birthday is tomorrow so if I can get through that, it will be smooth sailing til Thanksgiving. :)

Hi eri,

Reading your journal today was like hanging in my Grandma's kitchen -- baked okra and sweet potato pudding. Actually, it would have been sweet potato pie, though. Comfort food, mmmm good! But there was also milk straight from the cow, eggs and ham for breakfast - that kind of comfort goes right to the hips and arteries too so it seems! Are the baked okra and sweet potato pudding MWL recipes?

Anyway, good planning. I planned good and failed BIG today. I have to like do true confessions in my journal. I'll weigh tomorrow and see how much I can stand to divulge.

Good luck on the birthday party! I don't even want to think about Thanksgiving, sigh....

Haha they remind me of grandmother's kitchen, too! For the okra, I just but the frozen ones already rolled in cornmeal. But I don't think meal is MWL legal. SusanV from fatfreevegan has a troasted okra recipe that can be used with fresh or frozen okra if I'm not mistaken. Hers is MWL I'm sure.

The sweet potato pudding is something I came up with a few years ago when living away & not able to get home for the holidays. My dad makes the sweet potato & apple pies for holidays & I really nted some apple pie. But I didn't have apples or a crust! Kinda necessary heehee. So I winged it by whiling baked sweet potatoes with a can of pineapple & the same spices I would use for pie. It was great & I've been making it ever since. So as long as you count the pineapple as one of your fruit servings it's MWL. I used to add 1/2 cup sugar. U
