I'm an "old timer" in that I've known about McDougalling for too many years and not done it enough. I don't remember having issues in the past rushing the milestones but sure did this round.

After hitting a big mini-goal of passing from the obese BMI range into the overweight one, my next goal was to hit the halfway point in my journey (55 pounds), or at the very least, 50 pounds down. I only needed to lose less than 10 pounds for the 50 mark. Easy peasy, right?

Ha! I had the overtraining issue and stalled out just a few pounds below the overweight/obese BMI line for a month. The overtraining may actually have been a result of subconciously pushing myself harder but the real result was being unable to exercise for 3 weeks left me quite depressed and my eating reflected that. I'm just now physically up to hiking or biking for half an hour or so a day and have renewed my commitment to eat well (and ramp up the exercise gradually).

Some of us are NOT as smart as a lab rat and will keep making the mistakes over and over and over again. However, in the words of Captain Taggart of the Galaxy Quest,

Never give up! Never surrender!

I was watching the Biggest Loser last night, one of the guys just needed to lose, I think, 6 lbs to get to 100 lb. mark, he lost 5, 99 lbs, in 8 wks though, not too shabby. I hate it when they are all disappointed. So if you make it, which you probably will, congratulations but if you miss it by a lb. or 2, you will just soldier on, just like you have been doing.

Hope that you are feeling better.

Take care.

Weigh Day!! Down 10 pounds in 2 weeks, an increase over the prior month of 8 pounds every two weeks. An increase, for sure, but at what cost? I still feel poorly.

I'm under 400 pounds for the first time in almost 7 years. That is worth celebrating!! I'm 7 pounds away from having lost 100 pounds. That should make me happy. I can back off my mad pace and still do 7 pounds in 2 weeks, but at this point, I'm hoping I learned my lesson, which is to focus on what I can do "for the rest of my life" instead of any short term bursts.

====================================

I gave out my first weight-loss card today. I forgot I had them but a lady showed up at our food bank and she's getting ready to have gastric bypass surgery. I took out a card, wrote in "93" in the "pounds lost" space, then told her that maybe I could offer her an alternative. She took the card, commended me on my weight loss but said she'd tried everything and was resigned to having to do this. I told her to keep the card in case she changed her mind. Heartbreaking.
====================================
I didn't walk any today and don't plan on it this evening.

Norm -

Congratulations, you are doing wonderful. I love reading your journal. It is so inspirational.

In order not to get hung up on one goal, don't give it the importance. You have lots to celebrate besides weight loss. It's only one of the blessings I have experienced by this change in my lifestyle.

Each day pick something you are going to celebrate. One day you can celebrate staying on plan, another day exercising, feeling more energetic, feeling healthier, feeling more clear minded, etc. Celebrate that you got a chance to approach someone about changing their life, even if she didn't take you up on the offer now. That's a big deal. Heck, have a I Love My Potatoes Day. Just enjoy the journey and consciously celebrate it each day.

I did not keep a journal and to tell you the truth now I can't even remember how the weight came off. I don't remember being frustrated or plateauing or even the thrill of a big weight loss week. At the time, I know it did matter but now looking back I can't remember.

Donna

So many warm words of encouragement! I can't thank everyone enough!

Donna, thanks for the advice, it is spot on.

Ben, I'm glad you're following my journal and I'm glad you find my successes inspiring. You can do this too!!

zoey, it is an honor to receive your very first comment in a journal. :)

I am still feeling rather blah today, but I did get out and do some walking this morning. I wont do my three miles but it's good to get some in. I really missed it yesterday.
