Need to, want to, MUST do this program again!!

My kids are both off to college, dh is agreeable. He even wants to go to the PROGRAM together someday soon!! He initially wanted ME to go but I said that won't be any fun alone so he then thought it over and wants to go so that Dr.McDougall is HIS doctor too.

DH is verrrrrry tall and naturally thin (and the kids take after him). He would like to lose about 20 pounds. I am 5'9" and very overweight. He will probably lose 20 pounds in the first month (it happened before). I will probalby struggle to lose 20 by year's end.

Rather than have one last hurrah, I cooked a MWL dinner! Breakfast and lunch were not any this program.

I am going to the store tomorrow to stock up on some veggies. I have a big bag of brown basmati rice and a new rice cooker - both from Costco. I have oats, quinoa, hash browns, baking potatoes, canned beans, canned corn, romaine lettuce, carrots and a few onions on hand.

I do have 3 or 4 of McDougall's book w/recipes. I am not positive I will be 100% MWL all the time but I think between that and the regular program it will make a huge difference.

I'm really not sure where I should be posting this. I think I will join the JOURNAL board (will just copy and paste this over there).

Dinner 9/29
FF refried bean/rice/corn/salsa soup
romaine, tomato, red onion, carrot salad with FF/oil free balsamic dressing.
water

Thanks for the welcome, Debbie!

I did go over to the October thread and posted my weigh in :o

You got it right, I started with last night's dinner. I was just tired of putting it off, one more day, one more meal, one more week. You know, I'm sure. I see now that I got the date wrong in my post title. Sheesh.

Title of my post is WRONG  I started with dinner on 9/30.

I did weigh in today and posted that on the October Lard Bird thread.

Dh set up the big screen tv in front of the treadmill so that I didn't have to stare at the wall while I worked out. It was all I could do to talk myself into 20 minutes of wall watching.

Today - 10/1
B-oatmeal,applesauce,cinnamon,vanilla
L-brown rice, black beans, corn and an orange
D-more brown rice with chopped apple. At friends I had raw veggies that we took, some black beans she cooked up.

I did good avoiding the devilled eggs, cookies, crackers, slices of cheese and the dips. Good thing I ate the rice and apple before I left though.

Treadmill - 60 minutes/3.15 miles

We are going to play games with friends tonight and I am going to take a veggie platter and salsa. The hostess is kind of healthy although some of her ideas would not fit McD way of eating.

Thanks, Debbie. Fixed post title.

On the way to friends house I told hubby that I have started the program and when he is with me and I am cooking he will be on the program too. He is excited. He's been wanting to get back to this for quite awhile. So much easier with the kids off the college.

Saturday 10/2

B- oatmeal with applesauce,cinnamon, vanilla
L- 2 apples and ONE HALF of a tortilla chip so I could sample the Peach Mango Salsa.
D- Baked potato W/ black beans, corn, salsa and then some fresh veggies - grape tomatoes, baby carrots, celery, peas. FRUIT smoothie (orange, banana, pineapple, strawberries).

I'm wondering how we will eat while we are out and about today.

Wondering too if my fruit consumption is too high each day. So hard to stick to the TWO for MWL. I could easily be a FRUITARIAN rather than a vegetarian, but I'm working on that. SEEEEE how my day had LOTS of fruit??? But, but, but, aren't I still doing better than SAD???

I've already walked for 40 minutes and plan to get in another 20 after I work for a bit.

B-oatmeal,applesauce,banana, cinnamon & vanilla
L- rice with apple and cinnamon
S- 3 corn tortillas stuffed with salsa. I
D-roasted red potatoes (w/garlic,sweet onion,balsamic vinegar), romaine/spinach salad with red pepper,tomato,red onion.

I need to get to the store today but it is raining - phooey. Maybe I can last until tomorrow when we are supposed to have clear skies again. :?

Not sure I should have had the corn tortillas but I was soo hungry and I was trying to avoid the RITZ and the PB that is in the pantry. I know corn tortillas are allowed on the regular program...

In the past, corn tortillas were served at the MWL program. I don't know if the good doctor's thinking has changed on that.

I didn't think the 10 day program was dubbed MWL. I thought it was just the McDougall Program. Is this not the case?? If it IS the case that might be why corn tortillas are allowed?
