Thanks for kind words. I'm not trying to lose weight too fast, but my loss rate did about double from about 1/2 lb a week on a mostly McDougall diet to almost 1 lb a week on an almost total McDougall (but not particularly a MWL McDougall) "diet". That's why I purposely chose a turtle as my weight marker, indicating I want a slow but steady weight loss. The switch to total McDougall is the starting point on my ticker.

I might add that these discussion boards have been a real good way of keeping my mind in the game, as it were.

No new weight record today, but I have started some regular exercise. Yesterday and today I wogged around our cul de sac. Took 15 minutes both times. It is close to a mile, but probably a bit less. Hope to get in good enough shape before long to be able to mostly jog and only occasionally walk.

Wogging! I like it! Never heard that one before...I'll put it on my list. Maybe I'll wogg on the treadmill at the gym tomorrow!

You're doing great! :)

Been a while since I posted here. Partly because I haven't lost any weight and partly just too busy on other things. Need to get my bloodwork done this next week, so I'll report what it looks like.

I have fixed some good food as well as having some less than fully McDougallish food pass through my lips; mostly ones with too much sugar and some fat.

Did fix a nice veggy stew with potatoes as the base and tomatoes and some good veggies like red cabbage, broccoli and corn and cauliflower and onion and red pepper and celery. The flavor was mostly paprika and some other spices. Prep was easy since I just looked at what I had in stock and needed to be eaten before it went bad or the fridge exploded from too much food.

Dave: I have enjoyed reading about your journey. It seems to echo my own. I especially relate to the turtle progress, after thirty days I have lost 12 lbs but it has slowed considerably and I'm OK with that since I feel great. Your plan seems to be working for you and that is what counts. I am 6.0ft. 262 lbs and sell chocolate, how's that for living on the edge? Keep up the good work and I will drop in to see how you're doing, us guys need a role model like you:-)Ron

Thanks, Ron.

I've not been a real good roll model this past week or so, however. I thought I was eating fairly well, but my weight is up. I'm sure it's most all too much salt as I've not had much in the way of fatty things. But I'm hoping to fast for a while on a lot of things this week and see if the water comes off.

OTOH, I fixed a good stew a few days ago and my wife, eating the last of the left-overs at lunch at work said it's probably the best ever. It was actually pretty similar to JeffN's fast food meals, though not done as a fast food, and actually we didn't get his DVD until after I fixed it. Anyway it had a bunch of asparagus, which I found on sale at the 99c store. I thank whoever pointed out that 99c has a lot of inexpensive veggies. There were several other veggies and diced tomatoes and some spices and served over brown rice.

Then last night, for our, our church small group I fixed Mary McDougall's Mexi Soup which is one of my favorates. We have a meal every meeting and my wife redid the rotation recently so that one of the families who knows vegan cooking always fixes a vegan main dish which the others can use as a side dish if they wish, and someone else fixes a SAD main course. The host had a casserole with chicken and tons of cheese. I know it's very tasty from past experience, but this time I wasn't tempted at all to try some, especially with Mexi Soup available.

Not much to report for the last 10 days. I'm still stuck at about 2 lbs over my minimum. I am having fun with Jeff's SNAP meals and have a stuffed freezer of frozen veggie mixes.

I've had some luck finding no added salt products and last night fixed a SNAP meal with all low salt products. A real different taste, and i even added a sprinkle of salt. I expect if i keep eating them that way I'll get used to it however.

Glad you're doing well! Yes, it is fun to play around with the SNAP meals. Any interesting ones you'd like to share?

Well finally! I'm back down to my record low, 201.6. I'm continuing to eat a lot Jeff's snap meals, though Friday evening we had a "Mary Salad", which I think I explained in an earlier post. Basically just a McDougallish pasta salad. It's quite filling without many calories.

For various reasons, I haven't gone and gotten my blood tests yet. I'm thinking this is the week, however.

I did finally get my blood-work done. My figures were down a bit, though not yet where they should be. My plan is to start doing a MWL for a while to see if it will drop my weight down in the 190s at least.

I guess the Dr. has decided it wasn't worth the effort of trying to talk me into starting pills when my numbers came down, albeit not tons. The nurse called and said the doctor said if I wanted to get on the pills let her know. I said no. My Triglycerides did get down in the normal range and the fasting Glucose was under 200, but the A1c is still way too high. And my Cholesterol is still a bit over 200, though down 15 or so from the previous test.

Dear Dave, you are doing wonderful, and it is so nice that your wife is doing it too. It makes a world of difference, doesn't it? I have 2 adult sons who are strict vegans, but they can do a bit of the vegan junkies, like certain crackers or cookies, but not good old mom here. It is a bit of a pain not to see my numbers changes as dramatically as others in these McD books I am reading. But still and all, I feel so much better in all regards too.
I love the turtle icon, since it was the turtle who won the race after all!!
I will get there too, and am in the 190's again, having blown it all for the holidays, now it is the McDougall lifestyle... love it!!

We did some WII fit exercise last night. My weight wasn't anything to write home about, but I did set a new record in the Basic Step of 302.

It's interesting the things which I'm best at and the things my wife is best at. She does much better at the penguin slide, the soccer kick and the hula hoop and I'm better at the Basic Step and most of the balance exercises.

Tonight I fixed mashed pototoes and a vegan version of "chicken and noodles" with no meat, non-egg noodles and celery, onion and some left-over stir-fry frozen veggies. Pretty tasty!
