Hey Scott! I've been waiting for the new challenge but my feet keep moving so I've challenged myself to 1,000,000 steps by 01-01-08. :D Hope you don't mind me just butting in  since I didn't start your original challenge until waaaaay near the end. But it got me moving and I even found a step counter that works :)

So here's my challenge to myself and anyone who wants to join -- a million steps by 01-01-08. I actually started yesterday which will put me at 1,000,000 on 12-31-07 but extra steps can be filled in anywhere along the way if anyone else wants to join. (Wearing the step counter on "rest days" should easily add 2 to 3,000 steps on those days :D )

The path to the goal is 12,500 steps a day, six days a week with Thanksgiving and Xmas also considered rest days. I'm using my HiNRG SHAPE walking cd plus additional steps from my step counter ("s/c")each day.

So if anyone wants to join me, here are my totals so far (I'll update here daily):

LifeDancer :)

Th 09-27-07 steps: HiNRG 8430 + s/c 4711 = 13,141; TOTAL 13,141
F 09-28-07 steps: HiNRG 8700 + s/c 5062 = 13,762; TOTAL 26,903
S 09-29-07 steps: HiNRG 9346 + s/c 4144 = 13,490; TOTAL 40,393
S 09-30-07 steps: HiNRG 8566 + s/c 4239 = 12,805; TOTAL 53,198
M 10-01-07 steps: HiNRG 0000 + s/c 4964 = 04,964; TOTAL 58,162

T 10-09-07 steps: HiNRG 0000 + s/c 3370 = 3,370; TOTAL 144,918
W 10-10-07 steps: HiNRG 8835 + s/c 5307 = 14,142; TOTAL 159,060

Cool beans!

I didn't even start the first challenge until Sept 11 but once I got started haven't quit. Walking again to a consistent program really feels *ggod* and I'm so glad to have found something that fits my balance-disabled style. When I was a 25 yo young-un back in '78 I'm convinced (the doctors were too, I'm told) that the fact I had been jogging 2 miles a day with some workmate-pals was the deciding factor that saved my life after a major car accident. I can't remember the stage of breathing they said I was doing but dh says the doctor at the ER refused to put me on a respirator and said "She'll have to make it on her own."

Well, two brain surgeries, multiple broken bones, major loss of memory and who remembers what else  I did!

Anyway, I'm sure that's more than you really want to know  but I was trying to wait patiently for a new challenge but by the 27th my feet had kept moving and my patience worn thin :D so I started my own! So glad to have you counting steps with me :)

I have no problems with you issuing a new challenge. My ego is not tied into who issues a challenge :-D

That goal is probably more aggressive than I will be able to accomplish. So my "alternate" goal for my self is to reach 850,000 by the end of day 12-31-07. That is 10,000 steps a day, 6 days a week (give or take a day or two.)

LifeDancer, It's nice knowing more about the members that are posting...in fact I posted asking or saying it would be nice if more of the members filled in there profile. So many are just partially filled in. Some of the members agreed, but others said we don't need to know anymore  . Wow! you have gone through a lot but sounds like you are really stepping out now. I was late starting on Scott's challenge...August 8th...I got 502,735 steps or 229.83 miles...according to my calabrations. (Spelling?) I plan to continue.

LOL, Scott! Glad your ego's well intact -- after having been gone from the board for so long I didn't want to step on any toes

I think 850,000 steps is a very cool goal! I think the real goal is just to keep our feet moving!

Happy McDougalling!

Week of Sept 30th, Sunday through Oct 6, 2007 Saturday I walked 78,880 steps. Added to the 80,961 steps, the first week gives me a total of 159,841 steps or 78.1 miles per my calubrations. Wish there was a spell check. You guys are still walking aren't you? :-)

Dang, Charlie, you're doing good!

I'm still walking and have gone over my goal of 12,500 steps six days a week every single day and as of yesterday have a total of 136,966 steps.

I've been adding each day's totals to the bottom of my original post but apparently editing a post doesn't bring it up like adding a Reply does so I guess that's why it hasn't looked like anything's going on.

Maybe I'll start posting a seperate Reply each day and see if we can get anyone else to join us by keeping the challenge more active :D

Thanks for posting!

Monday 10-08-07 steps: HiNRG rest day + step counter additional steos = 4582 for a grand total of 141,548 steps.

GOAL TO DATE is 125,000 so I'm 16,548 steps ahead of goal (which is good since family junk means no HiNRG steps again today  )

Are any others walking? Good to see you are ahead of goal, Lifedancer! :D My goal is 10,000 each day...no rest days. I'll try and stay ahead of goal. It's a pretty hefty goal, but I know it's good for me.

Seven days a week?! Ambitious schedule, that's for sure :)

As far as I can tell by scanning up this thread, you and ScottP are the only ones who wanted to play   but maybe there's some other folks who are walking and haven't posted yet with their own challenge??????? I'm sort of surprised since the last challenge seemed to have quite a few people doing lots of stepping.

If anyone's out there, please join us :D The first of the new year seems like a really cool date for finishing a challenge -- pick your own goal number and join the fun!

Actually, over 1/5 of the way to 1.000,000 steps :D and I haven't even added today's steps yet (which are all bonus steps anyway since Monday is my "day off") :D :D

Steps totals as of Saturday:

S 10-14-07 steps: HiNRG 6307 + s/c 6286 = 12,593 TOTAL 209,490

I'm still walking. Oct 7th thru Oct. 13th I walked 77,726 steps or 35.2 miles. Add this to my last total of 159,841...gives me a total of 237,567 steps or 113.3 miles. However, it will be tough :( to keep up this week...going up to Banner Elk N.C. :-D to visit with Bev's 3 brothers and families. I'll see what I can do.

Charlie, do you have a step-counter? My Excel chart shows my total this coming Thursday the 18th should be 237,500 to be on track so you're ahead of schedule already :) Your trip sounds like it ought to be quite active with all those people to visit -- I bet you'll add up more steps than you think by just wearing a step counter.

Have fun!

Hi, LifeDancer

We are leaving in the morning. My pedometer is called SportBrain and it counts steps, miles, calories burned and time of day. I hook up a usb cable to it when I want to upload it to my PC. It will keep a running tab of all the things I mentioned...daily...weekly...monthly...yearly...summary...and the summary gives you last seven days, last 30 days, last 60 days, last 90 days, last 180 days and last 365 days at a glance. It's kinda neat...and you really don't need to upload daily...it keeps track of each day anf hour that you are wearing it. :-D you can check it out at http://sportbrain.com .
