My orthopadist diagnosed me with Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) i.e. arthritic hips. This was due to too much extreme mountain running and not enough stretching. He recommended Devils Claw as an anti-inflammatory, another doctor recommended fish oil. Does the research show any herbal medicines are worth it for overuse injuries?

Ginger is an excellent anti-inflammatory herb. It's also chock full of antioxidants, great for nausea and give a slight boost to the metabolism (warms you right up on a cold morning). In my house growing up, ginger tea with lemon and honey was our 'go to' cure all for colds, flu and body aches.

Turmeric is my go to after long training runs (ten miles and up). You can get capsules or put a teaspon of the powedered turmeric in a couple cups of boiling water. Stir well and let it sit until cool enough to drink. Tastes terrible, but it works.
