Saturday I made brownies using a mix from the Cravings Place. It is delicious!

The Cravings Place, 1020 SE Paiute Way, Suite #1, Bend, Oregon 97702
Ph.# 541-388-BAKE. www.thecravingsplace.com .

For a 9X13" pan it called for 1/3 cup of oil and 1 cup of water. Says you can use applesauce instead of the oil. Has chunks of chocolate in it. Gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, egg free, and nut free.

Wondering if those of you living on the East Coast have seen this product? They have 10 different products. Anyway, just wanted to pass along the information. Would make a nice birthday cake.

I've never seen these products in my area...looks like you can order them online through the gluten free mall, though.

Thanks for the heads up...looks like some good stuff there!!!!

Groundhogg, does the yeast for raising breads bother you? I made pizza using the Gluten-Free Pantry and I got sick. At first I thought it might be the soy cheese. But, after getting sick again yesterday when I ate some of the pizza. I got wondering if it might be the yeast? I guess I wouldn't have had to add it, but I didn't know.

Those brownies were delicious! I used the 1/3 cup of oil, but I think they would be chewier using applesauce instead. I'll try this next time.
What struck me was the fact that Bend, Oregon is not a big city like Seattle or Portland, OR. It's refreshing to know even smaller towns get into helping out us celiacs.

I've never noticed yeast seeming to bother me any, but my daughter used to get really terrible headaches whenever she walked into a Subway sandwich place...even when she regularly met with friends there for lunch once a week and she herself had only salad (which is yucky at Subway, by the way!)...just smelling all that yeast always made her sick for a couple of days.

When I used to bake bread all the time...I had to time when the yeast was rising / baking when she would'nt be home, because it made her sick. I don't know if eating it made/makes her sick or not...if it does, it's more subtle than being around when it's in the air.

I noticed somewhere on Dr. Kenneth Fine's site, he mentions yeast as possibly related to Crohn's Disease...and I get the idea in general, that, as a gastroenterologist who has focused his attention on all of the "incurable" chronic intestinal disorders and how to help people learn to manage them through diet...I get the idea he himself does not consider yeasted breads to be a healthful food.

I do eat my tapioca loaf on and off...not every day...and seem to have no problems...along with the g/f pantry pizza crust...I've only had it twice...so we don't do it often. But if I ever thought, or ever do think it's bothering me...I'll stop it entirely, right away.

I just remembered that my dh bought feta cheese to top his pizza with. I took a spoonfull on Sunday and again on Monday. So, now I have 3 items to consider. Soy cheese containing casein, yeast, and feta cheese (the real stuff).

Like I have posted, I was sick 2 weeks after attending a ladies tea party where dairy desserts were served. Heaven help me if I'm sick much longer from just a taste of feta cheese.
