Hi,

My husband has been a long-time sufferer of Lyme disease, and has heard that a diet similar to the McDougall diet will be helpful. I don't want to get too technical as to why it could help to alleviate some of his symptoms; it's quite complicated.

So, I am faced with the daunting task of implementing this diet for him with the exception of wheat and nuts. I know that doesn't leave much. I am hoping there is something out there for him to eat besides beans, but I have not been very successful in finding many recipes.

Oh, and he doesn't like tofu.

If there are any other Lyme sufferers out there, please let me know. I'd love to see how you are doing on this diet.

Thanks,
Linda

Welcome aboard, Linda!

If you will take the time to study the resources here, you will find that omitting wheat, nuts and tofu will still leave many wonderful options!

You can make it easy and simple or complicated and perhaps more tasty. I keep my diet simple and easy (just veggies and starches)...maybe because I am lazy and I am a happy customer.

I expect both of you will be pleased with the results if you will faithfully follow Dr. McDougall's guidance.

Thank you for the response, Pinkrose. I did a lot of research on this site yesterday and I did find a few recipes. Because of his limitations, there are very few options besides beans. We're talking about a man who has lived on meat, but now has to cut it out almost completely. He is allowing himself one serving of lean meat a week, and he lives for that one meal.

I will continue my search and keep you posted on our progress.

Thanks again,
Linda

Hello LindaK, I was surprised by the title of this post. My husband and I both have Lyme disease as well as some other issues. Other than diet and exercise we are not being treated for Lyme disease now. We have in the past and it wasn't pretty.

I have eliminated all meat from my diet and about 90% from his. We are using bottled water rather than city and are trying to get in about 1 mile a day. These things have given us a new outlook on life. Amazing the little changes one can do.

However, Dr. McDougall's diet has helped with our health and weight. We are more alert, active and able to do so much more. You're in the right place...just keep reading. I know it looks like a lot but eventually some of it will click and you'll just start 'living it'.

I'm glad you're here.

My 17 year old daughter has battled Advanced Lyme Disease for 3 1/2 years. The treatments have been really tough. She is nearly symptom free now; except for some fatigue and issues a teenager that has been in bed for 3 years has in trying to return to a "normal" life. Her specialist wants her to continue "maintenance" treatments once a month for the next two years. Honestly, I thank God for this doctor because he gave us back our daughter when all the local professionals wouldn't even consider that she had Lyme due to where we live. (We had the tick and she had all the symptoms, just a negative Western blot).
However, I don't want her on all these pharmaceuticals one more minute than we have to. I'm wondering if diet could take the place of more treatments. She wants to try it...after watching Forks Over Knives.
Is there any research about diet and Lyme Disease?
Thank you!
