Hello,
I'm new here and I just started eating Dr. McDougall diet today. I red a lot about it before I started.
I'm trying elimination diet first(only fruit is raw), because of digestion issues.

I'm coming from raw 80/10/10 diet of Dr. Graham. Before raw, I had some digestive problems(candida, IBS, parasites..) and his diet helped me a lot! I'm still cleaning from the candida and my digestion is still not perfect, but I am happy with current results. This way of eating gave me energy and desire to exercise. :)

But I decide to try Dr. Dougall's diet because I had to eat all day, I ate mostly bananas because of low budget and they weren't always tasty(bad rippen bananas) or ripe and I was also having problems getting in my greens.
My body is now already adjusted to big amount of fibre, but I find out there are some ex raw 811 eaters on this page and I would like to know how was your transition? Some raw eaters are not OK with cooked food. They have headaches and feel tired even if they eat only plain potatoes or rice.

This is my todays food intake:
B: 2 bananas+0.5 tbsp ground flaxseed
S: apple
S2: cooked butternut
L: 1 cup brown rice
D: 1 cup celery, 1 cup brown rice

This is very low calorie but I'm just not hungry anymore, even if I was adjusted to eating large amounts of fruit(At least 15 bananas every day and then some apples, persimmons, tangerines,..).
Brown rice is just so filling!
I think I need to add more vegetables. Tommorrow I will eat more of them.
I'm 171cm(5'7'') and have 46kg(103lbs). Before I went raw I had 52-54kg and I want to gain back at least 4kg. I'm naturally very thin and I had always been this way and I always had problems with gaining weight. I ate a lot of milk products, candies etc, but I was always skinny.

I have some questions:
If you look at the elimination diet foods, can I mix all foods listed as vegetables with starchy foods? Because I don't know about beets, string beans, asparagus and summer squash. Are some of these starchy?
I'm asking because I just red food combining and starchy vegetables shouldn't be mixed with starch foods.
Shortly, can I mix all vegetables listed as vegetables with starch? :)
How much flaxseed is OK to eat?

Sorry for my bad english. ;)

Welcome aboard, Lola!

Yes, I think several here have tried the raw diet among many others. I recall few problems with the transition and I am grateful to have finally figured out how to eat (with Dr. McDougall's help). I have been McDougalling (following the MWL guidelines) for over two years and I am delighted with the results!

I usually eat three meals daily of rice, starchy veggies and other colorful veggies daily. If you do not want to get hungry often and eat often, eat more at each meal! You probably do not need to measure what you eat. Just enjoy your veggies, beans, starches and fruit!

Please keep us posted on your progress!!! :)

Thank you for you welcome. :)

I hope someone will answer me other questions. :)

I think I should measure how much I eat because today I still ate only 1000 calories. I'm afraid to lose more weigh!!!

I ate:
B: apple, 3 bananas, flaxseed
L: 2 cups cooked chard
D: 1 cup cooked beet, 1 cup brown rice

Is this normal in the beginning I can't eat so much starch? Potatoes and rice are so filling.

And I'm a little constipated now. I went in the morning, but now I just can't go and it hurts a little.
Help me. :(

Hi Lola and welcome!

Any vegetables are fine, and there is no certain way you have to combine or not combine them. You should be working on getting some sort of starch at each meal, and that will help to increase your calories so that you do not lose any more weight.

I think 1-2 tbsp. of flaxseed is what most folks here are using, but I was unable to find a specific recommendation about flaxseed on Jeff Novick's forum.

For your constipation problem, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. There is a tea available at most grocery stores or Walmart called Super Dieter's Tea. It contains senna, a natural herbal laxative, and it works really well. That may help you until your body adjusts to the changes you are making in your diet.

Thank you! :)

OK so there is no food combining then. :)
I'm already drinking 4-5l of water, I'm used to it because of previous diet. I just don't understand why I can't handle bigger volume of starches... I ate 7 bananas in a row easily. But maybe my body just have to adjust to new foods. :)

I hope my constipation gets better, I'm going everyday, but I want to go twice! I'm from Europe, we don't have Walmart, but I will find some senna tea. :)

Today I ate sweet potatoes for the first time in my life and they are really delicious. It's just so sad we don't have them in stores all year round. :(
