I'm writing for moral support. My husband (66) and I (62) began the plan together last Sunday. I'd say I'm 40 pounds overweight and my cholesterol and CRP have been high in the past year. Two years ago using OA no flour, no sugar, weighing my food and counting calories I lost 35 pounds. Here I am 2 years later with 25 of it back on. I'm schedule to see my doctor in a few weeks and I'm really scared to see my blood work results.

So,by last night I was saying (over my black beans, spinach and sweet potato) that I'm really enjoying eating on this plan. This morning I weighed myself and found that I weigh slightly more than last Sunday. I can't say my journey was perfect this week. I had almonds from before the diet stored in my desk at work, so I ate some of those when hungry for a worse snack. My husband had emergency dental surgery and was craving ice cream after not being able to eat for a day. Of course, I broke down and had some too. Then we had a family party at my house and my good friend made the main dish -- beef brisket; I had a little. I think doing McDougall and cheating is probably what's responsible for no weight loss. I'm wondering if I should not weigh myself for a month?
I also had a busy week day and night and didn't exercise.

Given my past of yo-yo dieting and needing the severe structure of OA to lose weight any thoughts and suggestions are welcome. I know that at 62 my metabolism isn't what it used to be but I've read some great stories on this website. Thanks!

I

Don't weigh yourself! There, now don't you feel better?

Just kidding! I think once you settle into the program and your body gets used to high starch/fruit/veg, you'll stop worrying about your weight once you see it coming off dependably. I'm in Weight Watchers (I was in OA a couple of times and even CEA-HOW, but the 12-step thing just doesn't work for me), and I do weigh myself each morning, because I don't want any nasty surprises going into the weekly weigh-in at Weight Watchers. Besides, I like to know where I am. Give this program time to work, you'll be fine — and don't worry about your 62 year-old metabolism, mine's 75! :)
