Im down 80 pounds as of today :D Many more pounds to go but it is amazing to see the difference this way of eating has had on my life since May 2007.

I was able to go off my blood pressure pills within weeks of eating this way. My cholesterol has come down. Since cutting out beans and rice and all grains my back aches from arthritis have practically gone. Im able to walk three miles now and feel great and when I started this way of eating I was out of breath walking up and down the stairs all day. I am loving the thoughts of this summer with my 4 year old and running and playing with her at the park with ease. She is the reason for me looking for a healthier me and I cant wait to give her the mom she deserves, one who loves life and healthy eating and who cant wait to wake up each day and enjoy the world around us.

Thank you dr mcdougall for giving me a wonderful life to look forward too. You cannot imagine the gratitude I have for you and your generousity with all the information and help you have given me.

Woo hoo! Seeing where you have come from, that's wonderful. Your daughter should be so proud of her mom.

Congratulations, Autumn, on your fantastic success! Who would have thought that simply changing what we eat would make such a huge difference in the quality of life! SAD people don't know what they're missing.

Keep up the good work. One day at a time, one pound at a time.

Autumn -

Congratulations! Your four year old is a luck little girl. She has a mom that's willing to work hard to be healthy and enjoy her childhood with her. And to keep her healthy!

Donna

Congratulations on the wonderful example you are showing to your child. This gift is one that is irreplaceable. You should be proud of what you've accomplished, and in only 10 months. Way to go.

Did you cut out the grains and beans to help weight loss or because this is a new McDougall plan? I thought beans ok in moderation and grains were the main mcdougall staple. Am I behind the times?

Some people need to eat a restricted McDougall diet to resolve health issues like inflammation or gluten intolerance. You can read about one such person, Burgess, here:

http://drmcdougall.com/stars/burgess_laughlin.html

Beans are fine in moderation for those of us who don't have problems with them. Starch is the centre of the McDougall plan, which can be food like potatoes for people who can't tolerate grains.
