Hello everyone,

I tend to come and go to the forum (or to any forum). Well, I'm back and I've started McDougalling again. As my diet took a turn for the worse (new job, working through lunch, eating lots of junk food), I noticed my body isn't as forgiving as it was years ago.

So, I'm finally listening to my body, and do you know what it said?

You have a choice, you can eat dairy or go to the bathroom. You must pick one.

With dairy   :(
Without dairy :P :D

Seems pretty simple right? Well, for years I would eat dairy and suffer some kind of embarrassing consequence.

I've been eating McDougall for almost two weeks and what did I notice? I'm not bloated all the time. My skin is getting clearer and clearer (it wasn't that bad, but just a little too oily for me). And overall my body feels clean.

Plus, I'm not going to the bathroom without struggle. It's awesome!

Last night though, I had some pudding and got McDougall's revenge immediately. I'm still paying for it a little today.

But what's great is that I just quietly and simply choose not to eat dairy and to eat lo-fat vegan food the McDougall way.

It's great and I just wanted to share.

Once I start back with my walking (about 4 hours a week) I'm sure I'll drop the pounds. I was walking before but without eating right, and I didn't notice that much difference in weight loss.

Just wanted to share my happiness for finally listening to my body! :D

I wish you success on your McDougall journey! And I understand about McDougall's Revenge - a high fat item will do me in for the next day - and I wonder why I even considered eating the high fat item. Oh well, at least we know what we should do to feel better. :)

Good for you, Kayll! Isn't it strange how we know something's going to hurt us, and we tend to eat it anyway? Somehow the imagined pleasure we think we will get from the food overshadows our bad memories of what happened last time.

The last couple of years, before I returned to McDougall, consisted of my eating a fatty food, then in a complete panic trying to get to the bathroom. Not to mention the incredible pain. My entire life had to revolve around being near a restroom because the cramps could come in a flash.

No more of that now. Lo and behold: I'm normal. What a deal. And I weigh 122 pounds less than a year ago. God is good.

Hi Netti,

Glad to hear you share the same positive results from eating McDougall style.

I just got back from vacation and ate some non-McDougall treats containing dairy.

I swear, I could stop the war in Iraq if they set me up in a bathroom near the warzone. Toxic isn't the right word to use. Deadly is more accurate.

My body was totally reacting in a very bad way to what I ate on vacation. Normally I'm a vegetarian, so I only added some bad dairy treats in there. But boy did I pay for it.

I can't wait to go shopping tonight and pick out the three or four main meals for the week. Since I live alone, I find its easiest to pick out three or four dishes from the Quick and Easy cookbook.

Then I go shopping Sunday night and prepare at least one meal for Monday. Monday night has me making the remaining meals which I freeze or put into lunch containers for work.

That seems to work the best. It is time consuming, but it's better than the alternative. I find myself in a panic when I can't find something McDougall or even plain vegetarian and healthy at work or wherever I'm at.

Eating healthy and have prepared meals ready really makes a difference.

I have plain baking potatoes with me at work. I keep a week or two worth of them in my cabinet next to my desk. I nuke one at work every day, and eat it with the salad I bring.

I always have potatoes at home, so I'm never without something to eat. I keep canned goods (canned beans, corn, carrots, green beans. turnip greens & stewed tomatoes ) which I can always throw in a pot and heat up for supper. I just dump them all in together. I can get 2 huge meals from this. No running out at the last minute because there's no McDougall-legal foods in the house.
I also carry canned goods in the trunk when I go to someone's house for a meal, just in case. I just explain I have to eat this way, and nobody says a thing. My in-laws are now used to this. My life depends on my eating this way, and I've stopped worrying about what other people think.

Nettie,

You are so awesome. I'm so glad you shared that with me because that's what I've thought to do before, but felt kind of "silly" doing.

I really love the idea of bringing potatoes in to work with me. Also, I tend to have a lot of canned goodies in my pantry. Plenty of corn and beans. Plus there are always some onions laying about. I'm always craving Mexican type McDougall dishes.

I've just discovered canned stewed, diced, and crushed tomatoes. Other than the salt, there isn't any fat. So I plan on experimenting and making my own sauces with them. Yum!

You are such a smartie! Thanks for sharing your tips with me.

Tonight I made corn chowder. It's delicious and I had most of the ingredients already in the pantry. I also bought ingredients for Pasta with Chili, and another Lentil dish.

What do you do for snacks in between meals? I bought some dried apple rings which have no fat. I know dried fruits are off the list, but its better than me going to the vending machine. I also got some peanut butter filled pretzels - which I know are off the list - but they help keep me sane when I'm having the munchies.

I think you are right about our lives depending upon eating like this. For my sociology class, I'm thinking about writing a paper on obesity.

Thanks so much for your awesome tips!
