After I watched Mike Teehan's presentation on YouTube, I changed a few things in my diet. Something just hit me when he said just dont eat fat. Me, I wasn't eating fat, was I? Well, certainly not like I used to, but yes, it was still there in a few foods I just didn't want to give up. I still was losing weight, but I was fighting cravings all the time & not always winning the war & then of course that would zero out any weight loss I had. So on 5-17, I got rid of those foods that were not allowing me peace. I kept what Mike said in my head, dont eat fat. The 1st week was hard, but I wasn't hungry so I had to just fight the emotional battle. That 1st wk, I lost 7 lbs. I have had some cravings for a few favorite things here & there, but they are fewer & farther between the longer I stay on plan. I read someone said they thought of certain foods & were repulsed by them, but I find I dont remember what the taste was like of my favorite foods. Thank goodness. I can look at it & not want it.
So, it is 7 wks today. I have lost 24. 6 lbs, I have also lost 3" from my waist, an inch from my hips & bust each. My BP is 116/60, heartburn is gone. I had several rashes on my body, they are all gone, along with the intense itching. I have a ton of energy. I teach AKC competitive obedience & am no longer taking Ibuprophen before I go training. And my own dogs are getting a whole bunch more training as well. I have some weight still to lose, but thanks to Mike's presentation, I know I will get there. I have found the "McDougall Secret", well, there was not any real secret, I just chose to not see what was there in front of my face, I told myself this doesn't count, right? Wrong!!! A little does matter.
I still have some mental demons to hash out & I will not feel I have won the war until I hit my goal, 132 & maintained it for a while. I am well on my way & I am not looking back, only ahead.
Now if I could only find a full time job!!! I am in need some new clothes!!

Thanks for sharing. I'm so glad to hear of your success. Yes, I was impressed by Mike's presentation too. I think I'll re-watch it.

Congrats!! :)

Yeah, it's amazing how a "little bit" of fat can drift into your diet if you're not careful. There are so man processed foods w/ added fat out there--have to stay very diligent! Glad you're back on track! Good for you!

BTW, I used to compete in obed and agility myself. :) Haven't done much in the last 10 years, but used to be really into it. Now my dogs just hang out around the farm, LOL. I really do miss agility esp., but with 2 jobs and a horse to ride there simply is NOT time and I've had to accept that. :)

Thanks ET.

I did agility, but obedience is my thing, I have put 4 Obedience Trial Championships on each of my Golden Retrievers. These guys would never be happy just hanging around, they're huntin' dogs. I also have dabbled in hunt tests, but yeah, there is only enough time & $$ to do stuff.
I rode horses as a kid & we showed quite a bit, but that is very expensive so can't do that now either.

Way to go Jan!! I have quit the fat as well. Mike was so good, he just kept saying get rid of the fat and I thought yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I started looking at my diet and recommitted to true McD just Sunday and am already down 2.8 pounds. I could only hope I would be down 7 at the end of this week. In fact if I was down 24 in 7 weeks I would be done. That would be awesome. Not that anything is going to change at that point, but just to buy clothes that fit and you know they are going to fit for the rest of your life would be nice.

Congrat's again. =)

Isn't it interesting to see what happens when you hear the message again, but maybe a slightly different way? That's what I love about the board - the constant reinforcement of what is working for people. It truly motivates to do it right - completely right!

Congratulations, Jan, on your success. You're on your way now to getting the body you deserve! I'm sure your dogs are thrilled to pieces that you have more energy for them already.

I would buy croutons, fat free, for my salad, cuz I liked the crunch, but I knew they really weren't fat free, but I figured it would be ok, cuz I was still losing, right? Overall my eating consisted of whole foods, like potatoes, rice, oatmeal, but I just let other things creep in. I was drinking coffee, & I did use creamer, non-dairy but not fat free! Things like that. But I had been doing this for a while, what was happening the last few months is my eating was getting out of control, breakfast would be good, that was it. Then I saw Mike's presentation, that is what turned me around. Yes, I could still weight eating those things, but it was making it so hard to fight the cravings for the wrong stuff. I quit drinking the coffee, only because I dont like it black, then I switched to green tea. But I only did that maybe for a week after I started, I dont really like tea that much. Funny, I had no withdrawl symptoms from the caffeine.
Yesterday I saw a commercial for Jenny Craig, the lady is jumping down, I lost 30 lbs in 18 wks.!! Well, I lost 24+ lbs in 7 wks & I bet I paid a lot less for "my plan" & I am sure it was a whole lot easier.
Thanks everyone, for your kind comments. I will check back in another 7.

Yeah, I don't show much b/c the expenses associated w/ showing horses makes showing dogs look affordable, LOL! Just HAVING horses is expensive. ;)

congrats Jan!!!! You are going great. I slipped for awhile and added non fat yogurt back to make cheese out of and I paid for it dearly. Any dairy whatsoever and I get back or neck pain...so that is gone. The hardest thing I have is opening the refrigerator and seeing Ed's cream cheese sitting there. I haven't touched it!!! :D I have to make myself eat now since it is sooooo hot here I haven't had much of an appetite but I don't want to go below 110 lbs.... :D
