But have you read anything by Dr. McDougall, the owner of *these* forums?

Sagegirl: WOW! What a story. And yes, if you do strict McDougall, you should see maximium results. You go girl!!!!

My husband and I have good friends of ours. Brian, believe it or not at 41 had quadruple bypass. He has a history of heart disease in his family, big time, on both sides.

Anyway before the surgery both these folks had been McDougalling. But unfortunately, Brian was "cheating" at work. And in summer of 2008 he went off McDougall almost completely. (He is a school teacher at a private boarding school.)

Anyway in November of 2008 he began experiencing chest pains while walking up a hill carrying pumpkins. The next thing we all knew he had a ekg. It was abnormal, and he was sent for a stress test which he flunked. Then it was on to the hospital for a heart catherization where his wife was told he had 10 blockages. He had the chest pains on Wednesday and Monday the following week he had the surgery. Everything happened so fast.

Unfortunately, I would like to tell you that he went back on McDougall and stayed there, but not so. I guess he is not willing to give up his meat. He has been back to the hospital twice since his surgery for chest pains and now is on nitroglycerin when he needs it. All this at 42 years of age!!!

His wife has told me many times that she can't be his watchdog with what he puts into his mouth. He is very overweight and looks terrible. When his wife cooks at home, it is always McDougall eating. But when he is on his own, he still eats what he wants.

I often wonder what it takes for some people to wake up and make the changes in their eating. My husband and I are afraid we will lose this good friend of ours long before it is his time.

Sagegirl: My husband and I have seen great changes McDougalling. He lost 30 pounds and I lost 15 without even trying. His blood pressure is now normal, and we both feel great. You hang in there. The more you eat like this, the better you feel!!

Wendy Jane: This is my first day on the computer since December/09. Have greatly missed this discussion Board. Thank you for your encouragement.

I'm still walking great! But --- I do need to become compliant with my way of eating. Being able to read the forum truly is an encouragement.

This is great to read! I have a family history of heart disease and my grandmother suffered a heart attach recently which scared all of us (she is now fine, thank goodness). So heart disease is of great concern to me.
