I am so sorry about your beloved cat - pets are so precious to us (we would be lost without our 2 spaniels).
Congratulations on the weight loss! You have done AMAZING Kirk! So happy for you! :-D

FABULOUS!!! Can't wait to see you at 299! :)

I'm so sorry about your kitty. :( My critters are my children and it's hard to have children you know won't outlive you. Their love makes the inevitable losses worth it, though.

Trust me on this: One day you'll wake up and realize that it no longer feels like "being strict." It just feels GOOD. :)

Norm, your post almost made me cry. We have both accomplished so much, and how long it has taken isn't what is important! I'm looking forward to the day when both of our names are on the Star McDougaller list. It won't be long, now, for either of us, I suspect.

I have about another year before I'm close to my goal weight, by my best projections. In the overall picture of my life, that's really not a long time! I'm already close enough to it to FEEL it, and it's no longer a theoretical end to a journey but just another distant place I'll pass as I move on with the rest of my life.

So everyone, here I am to announce that one extremely depressing and emotionally bankrupting vigil (that of watching helplessly as my oldest cat, who was my companion for over 13 years, weakened and died) has now been replaced by the absolute elation of being on the threshold of 300 pounds -- which I have not seen the proper side of since about spring of 1991.

I am so sorry about your cat. Our pets really are such a big part of our lives. And congratulations on nearing the 300 pound threshhold! I am not far behind you, and like you, I haven't been on the right side of that number since the early 90's. I'm still not entirely used to being in the 300's, sometimes thinking my weight still starts with a 4... someone is going to have to pinch me when I move into the 200's, and I'm sure you feel the same way!

I was just reading in The Lounge about the 300-lb. woman who died from complications of gastric bypass. I wish she could be here to read about your progress, it would surely have inspired her as it inspires us.

Terribly sad about the loss of your dear cat. I lost my all-time favourite cat (among many) to cancer a few years ago, it's a very helpless feeling.

Ege you are doing so fantastic with your weight loss. I'm sorry to hear about Marmalade and that your finances are so difficult. I wish you and your wife better circumstances very soon. Even more reason to admire your strength and success with Dr. McDougall's diet. All the best!

Ege: I just watched the first of your youtube videos and found it very comprehensive and I think you speak very well for this WOE. I mean that literally, you have a nice way of presenting information and it's interesting even aside from the detail of your journey thus far, which are of course quite compelling.

I am terribly sorry about your precious kitty - please I hope you and your wife don't make yourselves feel bad over not being able to afford the vet. I worked in a vets office long, long ago and a good many of these apparent wasting away illnesses just cannot be resolved.

I had a cat that got a cancer and tried everything that was recommended. Some of her therapies were even done at a University Veterinary Hospital. The end result was I spent huge amounts of money and finally had to just make the decision that it was about her quality of life.

Most obviously Marmie had a good quality of life with you two and you are doing your best to see that you also have the best quality of life you can have through your current efforts.

Best wishes on your continued progress - Michelle
