Many years ago I had two small bowel resections for Crohn's disease, which causes frequent, poorly controlled diarrhea. I do better on regular McDougall than SAD, mostly because of the lower intake of fats and sugars.

I started MWL two days ago, and I'm experiencing Very Frequent bowel movements without much notice, with a lot of gas and little fecal matter coming through.

Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to whether my body will adjust to this extra roughage? I'm not sure I can continue MWL unless these constant trips to the bathroom let up.

Anne, my guess is that your body will adapt. However, you may need to experiment to determine what works best for your. For example, if fiber is the main culprit, you may find that you tolerate white rice better than brown rice or that potatoes work best for you.... You may also need to avoid large servings of veggies, especially the crucifers. :!:

Keep us posted! :-D

You might want to ease into the fiber also. I'm not sure how much whole grains and fruits and veggies you were getting on the regular program. But maybe buffering it a bit will help.

I still get very gassy. It's embarrassing. I then remembered horses, and how much gas they have. It is something we are meant to do. But the diarrhea isn't. Soft stools are good, but watered down are not.

Thanks for your responses, Faith and Pink Rose.

I can't do it. I made it through lunch this morning, and the frequency and the straining and the pain just got to me.

I'm going to go back to standard McDougall, with some peanut butter on a sandwich for dinner, hoping that will ease things up some.

I'm having to cancel my club meeting tonight...no way I can go with this much discomfort.

I'll keep you posted.

Update:

I added more oil and fat into my eating last night and woke up feeling good this morning. I'm going back to standard McDougall today.

good. Keep a diary just so it'll help you figure out triggers etc. Maybe it's just one or two foods. Of course, if it's a favorite food then you'll be seeing it often.
