Hi. I know this question or some iteration of it has been asked here, but I can't find a satisfactory answer. I've read the MWL book and understand completely why Dr. M. says no fruit juice or purees, but on most mornings I'm not very hungry and nothing satisfies me like a green smoothie. Seriously, I can have one for breakfast and then go till lunch without getting hungry. But if I have oatmeal and fruit, forget it. I'm hungry within an hour or two. Plus lately I haven't been able to eat as much and get most of my leafy green servings from my smoothie.

So, my question is, can a person do MWL and still have a green smoothie? Please don't post links to other discussions here. I've read many of them and understand the reasons Jeff N. and others suggest consuming them infrequently or not at all. I'd like to hear from anyone who has had success on MWL yet still drinks green smoothies. Thanks.

Thanks.

No. It wouldn't be the MWL plan anymore. It would be a hybrid plan of MWL/12 Day or MWL/Eat to Live. And that's OK. I've found that to be successful in the long term you need to adapt the information Drs. McDougall, Fuhrman, Barnard, Esselstyn, etc. give us to your own unique situation. Some people find this overwhelming and prefer to find one program and stick to it like glue - and that's OK, too. So long as you are eating mostly whole, unprocessed foods, are avoiding oil AND are happy with your weight-loss - continue on. If your weight-loss is slow or stalls, re-evaluate the breakfast smoothie. This WOE is for the rest of your life - a little experimentation can be fun.

Hi Kate,

Thanks for your answer. I tend to take what I like from each of the programs you mentioned, although if I eat too many nuts and seeds, I don't lose any weight, which is why I'm exploring MWL again. So far, the smoothies haven't seemed to stall weight loss, but it's possible they will when I get close to my goal weight.
