If you haven't already, have them watch "Forks Over Knives". That brought my husband on board. He now eats meatless most of the week.

Hello and welcome.

I am one of the women who lost all they wanted and even more. Goalweight was 140 lbs (I am 5'9", solid bone) and I am still going down, last week I was down to 137, even after eating some nuts and avocados :D .
I might have to watch that I don't go down too far

That's great, Mountain! I'm thinking it will be harder to keep from continuing to lose, but I'm not going to complain.

Wow wow girls! I think you are girls anyway...lol I sooo wanna lose weight to the point of needing to eat more to keep some weight on!! hahaha did that make sense???? Only problem is today was a lil stressful and I overdid the potatoes, I think... well I know.
I had 4 sweet potatoes and 7 potatoes throughout the day!! With the addition of
10/11am >> 2 apples
12/1pm >>6 big carrots followed by 4 plain taters (went for an hour walky after that) and I was travelling 3 & 1/2 long hours in the morn, hense the 'simple and plain' apples and carrots and cold taters  They are my three fav foods though!
4/5pm >>arugula and cilantro salad with lemon and apple cider vinegar
also soup >> 2 med zucchini, 4 celery, 1 eggplant, 2 small carrots, with only water and lemon in it ... and I don't use salt on anything ever. the salad and soup was at dinner...
6 and 7pm >>ate the rest of those startch~ys!!!! I just couldn't stop!! :crybaby:
The potaotes were some 'regular' sized red and white skinned ones not babies, but not the big'ol ones either... I feel kinda guilty too, and not sure why I did it. I wasn't super hungry I just wanted them! I and I was sooo happy too cuz my pants were super baggy and I felt much slimmer today, It's like I have to sabotage myself or something!!!!! :duh:
How can I fix my brain!??!?!? :\
Reallly wish I knew what ya all eat on here, cause sometimes I look at peoples menu examples on here and it seems like so little I get hungry just reading it!! Plus it never says if there eating one potato or ten at a time! hahaha I wish 10 ;-)

Faith, you need to stop worrying. That's the amazing thing about this diet. Even if you ate a whole bag of potatoes (and it sounds like you could  ), it's very hard to eat so much that you would gain, as you should be realizing now since your pants are still baggy. You may not lose as fast eating as much, but you're not going to sabatoge the general trend downward in weight.

Yesterday, I ate some melba toast with homemade hummus spread for breakfast (not a breakfast person, so I usually just snack). Then, I had two enormous bowls of curried vegetables (green peppers, carrots, tomatoes, and cauliflower) over brown rice.

I find rice really filling, so even though I went to the grocery store after that, I wasn't hungry until dinner, when my husband and I had more of the rice/veggies and split a veggie sub on multigrain bread (only mustard, no oils).

So, I eat less volume than you, but I try to make what I eat very heavy and filling. You may need to mix some rice or other grains in with your potatoes to leave you feeling fuller longer, but it doesn't really matter. Everything you ate was still really low calorie, so you're doing great.

I too felt like I hate alot of food on my first week!! I was surprized at my first weigh in to lose 4 pounds. I would like to lose 25. Probably at the beginning we might eat more because we are just not use to having permission to do so. We are use to feeling guilty for almost every bite we put in our mouths. I hope you continue and do well. Heather.

Thank you!! :) I wanna stop worrying..I wake up feeling amazing, and lighter! I feel amazing all day, but at night, for dinner, I eat my biggest meal and feel like I failed because I am soooo full!! I make a huge green salad and big veggie soup, and then eat the rest of the taters I cooked. Ya see....night time is my 'stuff my face time' I ate 6 sweet and 3 white potatoes today!!! :crybaby: and only two of them were during the day, the rest were just ingested!!! I feel like if I eat too much during the day I will just keep going, and it will slow me down...Anyone have this problem??? I have no self~control, darn it.....And I sooowant my tummy to go away.. hahaha but I can't stop eating till its way too full!!! Thank God for low~calorie veggies!!! :unibrow:
I am at 1590 calories for the day.. is that too much??? I really wanna be able to eat a lot. The nice thing about 801010 is I pretty much ate 2000 calories a day! Me like~y that!!! But I am loving potatoes... more than fruit, and never thought that would ever happen!!! Maybe if I exercise more?? Ifg I could I would live on potatoes, apples, and carrots! lol Maybe in the future when I am super comfy with my weight... I can??? :D

Stop counting calories. We don't do that on this plan. Stick w/ MWL, eat until you are comfortably full (but not stuffed), then stop. Eat again later when you are hungry. Rinse and repeat!

Trust me on this: One day you'll wake up and realize that it no longer feels like "being strict." It just feels GOOD. :)

Ok sooo I went all day yesterday not thinking about counting calories.. Ate when I was hungry...stopped when I was full..etc, really enjoyed my day! So for fun, I punched in the foods for yesterday in the chronometer this morn. My cals were only 1200!!!I am not going to worry anymore I guess :) know it's only been 10 days, but I feel sooo amazing and content eating this way! Tons of energy, but not super~crazy~hyper like I used to be, no anxiety like I used to feel, my tummy is flatter, my clothes are looser for sure, I am not even going my the scale, but I am under 130 for the first time in my life without starving or being sick in bed with zero food!!!! I am sooooo happy! This way~o~eating truly is a blessing from God!!!!

And my mom is now 'trying' it!!! I sooooo hope it will stick for her! She is loving the potatoes and sweet pot idea! She has a bit to lose, so it should work fast for her.. I hope, I hope! Thank you for your awesome support everyone! I love this website, the books, fruits, veggies, and potatoes!!!! <3
Thank you Dr,McDougall for all your wisedom, and for caring and sharing this amazing way~o~eating!!!! YAY for starches!!!! :)

Congrats, Faith! I am glad to see that you are trying to stop obsessing about the calories! And feeling lighter and having looser pants is the inevitable result of eating this wonderful food.

I am another gal (5' 3") who has lost it and kept it off and I eat a lot of rice and potatoes. I did (do) MWL, but I never bothered to make my starches a smaller proportion to my vegetables. I lost ~ 100 pounds and I've kept that off for 10 months now...it took me about 6 months to lose the last 10 pounds, but it felt good all the way! [However, in the interest of full disclosure, I have not lost my stomach pooch. I am weak in my core, because I'm not much on core exercises...I just thank goodness for clothes!]

Don't worry about the time of day you eat, either. There is no real proof that eating (potatoes or any other MWL food) closer to bedtime makes you gain weight. But--go ahead and eat until you are full during the day, too, and you will find that you may no longer feel that need to stuff yourself after dinner. Try it--I can pretty much guarantee that it's true. Don't bother ever letting yourself get hungry! Get that panicky feeling out of the way. Plan what you can eat--and eat it. You will feel wonderful all day and all evening.

Thank you sweetie!!!
Actually, Faith is my moms name..lol I signed in on here under her usual 'forum' name. I was hoping she would do this with me too! I am ali ;)
But thank you again for the encouragement! I do feel so much more relaxed now. I too have a weak core. I think a lot of us woman do.. I know for me, poor posture and just being insecure makes me stand the way I do, But I have been trying to hold my belly~button in, hoping it might help my posture and lil tum~tum :) I can't believe how much you've lost! It is amazing! My mom was blown away too, and excited. And I think it caused her to jump on board!
