I travel a lot and have to do a certain amount of client entertainment (which almost always means restaurants). Sometimes these events come up at the last minute so that I cannot always plan ahead. At least if I bring some food with me wherever I go, I can try to eat that food before going to the restaurant so that I will not be as tempted by the menu.
I guess I was hoping that despite all the posts on the McDougall board to the contrary that someone had come up with a couple of dishes that could be ordered at restaurants from time-to-time without doing too much destruction. I suppose this wish comes from the same part of me that believed for so many years that heavily processed food could be healthy.
It just drives home one of the other themes that I see repeated often on this forum. Not only do I need to learn a whole bunch of new eating behaviors and habits, but I also need to learn a whole new set of social skills -- like ordering McDougall-friendly food at a restaurant without inadvertently making my new WOE the center of attention.
