I'm up 1 pound this week.

I've increased exercise (walking a lot/weight training) and food wasn't the greatest. So I must watch the food a little closer.

Well, I'm starting off August in the wrong direction...up 0.8 pounds. No mystery as to how...went out for Thai food 2 nights ago and I know I'm still holding on to that. Plus I just changed jobs and we are in the middle of putting our house up for sale, so I am stressed to the max and haven't been sleeping well. I ate a whole bag of dark chocolate covered pomegranate pieces when I was out running errands yesterday. I knew I was stress eating, but I did it anyway. Otherwise my eating has been good except I've been heavier on the starches and fruits and lighter on the veggies.

I really need to get a handle on how to continue taking care of myself when I am stressed...this is the number one thing that will always throw me off course. Thanks for the link LaurieD...I have watched another video by Dr. Lisle and really learned a lot. I will try to watch this one soon! Congrats to all the losers this week and I hope to be among your ranks next week! :P

Christine

Down 1 pound this week.

I got weighed at the doctor's office, my scale is 5 pounds less than his. :-( So I'm not as far along as I thought, but the needle is moving down from week to week. It's an older scale; I wonder if they set it to read that way, like they change the sizing on clothes so we won't feel as big as we are. (Probably it's just old...)

I wouldnt worry about the difference between your scale and the doctors. You are wearing clothes at the doctors and you may have even eaten at least 1 meal, of course they will be different. In fact if you had two scales at home side by side they would most likely be different. When I bought my new one my old one weighed me 2 pounds lighter, still does to this day. They are both digital and the old one is in our front bathroom.

The doctors scale should go down in line with yours at home. I wouldnt stress it.

I wanted to ask does anybody have any recommendation for beginner exercises for when you're this out of shape and obese? Something gentle that helps build your strength back up on your own? I've been having lower back problems doing the basic chores such as vacuuming or trying to clean and it seems my whole body hurts.

Any recommendations to start rebuilding the shape of my body under these layers of lard, or just wait longer until I lose more weight and take it one thing at a time?

Hmm, because of the fibro - exercise for me is a warm water pool and light gym work - rower, bike and treadmill. But I have been having knee problems for a while and need to get that sorted out. But I think Norm and others have been talking about DDP yoga and that looks like a good thing for folks like us :) I am going to go check this out.

Chile did a link to Arthur's DDP transformation and a bit of write up on it here and others like Norm chime in too :-D :-D

"Course you'd have to make sure your hubby didn't lend it out too much for you to get any benfits from it, hehehehehe!!!!!! I had a boyfriend like that - he once lent out my car to some people who took it on a three day trip. They were actually great folks and they paid me by the mile for use and so on - but OMG!

I am really late reporting in. Sorry about that, and don't worry about my not being in the tally. I just wanted to be accountable, and get my post done. :)

I lost 2.6 this week, which makes a total of 15.9 pounds lost in 35 days.

Went off plan slightly last night with a handful of peanuts and a glass of wine, but no change this morning, so I am back to potatoes today to keep up the momentum.

Hope everyone has a great week, and we are all a bunch of LOSERS for next week's weigh in. :D

Edit: Hmm, my ticker did not update to 15.9 lost. Not sure if there is a delay after I update it or not. I now have 71.1 pounds to lose. Sigh. :?

I would suggest getting a decent pair of running shoes (from a running specialty store) if you've never done that. Walking is one of the best exercises for low back problems. Add time gradually. I'd skip the jogging at all until you get a good feeling of confidence with walking. There's nothing like the feeling of finishing. I can't emphasize shoes enough, and even if you're working with a little back pain to start out, just getting those muscles working will probably make you feel better pretty quickly.

As for resistance/weight training there are plenty of places online to start you out with "body only" weight training. Also Lani Muelrath is a wonderful resource here. She'll hook you up.

A good book with some good overall body exercises is Bob Greene's Get With The Program!

Good luck, the younger you are the faster you'll feel fitter--I wish you well!

You are in! You were not that late and of course you'd be included. Great job!

Try a youtube search for "chair exercise." Here's a sample...

Most are aimed at seniors, but they should be useful for anyone with limitations.

Checking to see if my ticker eventually updated...I need to see the progress. lol

Edit: Looks like TickerFactory works better for me than LilySlim tickers. Not sure why. Should read a loss of 15.9 as of today. Yay! It's a good start on a long road. :)

It's great to see all the exercise recommendations and I will have to look more into them this week.

I realized tonight from the medical records that I was in the morbidly obese range when we lost the baby. I can't believe I was ever morbidly obese but it says so right here on the paper. My mind is trying to wrap around the idea. :duh: I guess I was in denial for a long time though I did gain much weight with the pregnancy. More than I should have because 220 was the most I've ever weighed.

On the bright side I recently made the jump from being in the morbidly obese range at 210 to being in the obese range at 209. I'm not sure I should be happy about that or not because it's still obese even though it's some progress. I won't make the next jump from being in the obese range to being in the over weight range until I reach 179 lbs. That's 25 more lbs. to go and it seems so far away. I tried to calculate it at an average loss of 2 lbs. a week and that will be 12 more weeks or 2 and a half months. Somewhere in the middle of November I may finally be in the over weight range.

Down 4 pounds from last Friday - 269 to 265. Several people have commented on me looking like I've been working out, which is nice to hear . . . because I have! :)
Congrats on getting into the size 16 pants, Rosey! Wow, what a validation of all your hard work and great lifestyle.
