I don't know if you guys have a Native Foods near you, but I thought I'd share that they will custom make your meal if you ask them. They are an all vegan place and a little frustrating that I had to ask, but they made me a nice bowl of brown rice, steamed veggies and black beans with no oil. It was even cheaper too. :-)

Good to know. I love Native Foods, and, being new to the 'no oils' thing, losing my last few restaurants has been difficult. Although, not sure how much of their menu is left, even if specially prepared, when you subtract out all the frowned-upon veggie-meat.

Native Foods used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but they are indeed heavy on the fake meat. (On my first visit I got an "all meat" vegan pizza!) We bought their cookbook, and most of the recipes have a lot of fat. Their Iron Yam salad is really tasty and would be super-healthy if made without all the olive oil in the dressing.

We've lobbied them like hell to keep allowing customers to create healthy low fat meals there. They finally put the tacos on the menu again after a short ban on healthy items... All you have to do is order them like this;
#1. Sub black beans for refried beans
#2. Sub fried corn tortillas for regular (before they fry them)
#3. Sub guacamole for red beans

The come out outstanding! We'll do a blog post with the end result asap.

(they said too many customers were creating their own menu items and I told them its because everything they serve is fried and unhealthy, they murder vegetables and vegans, so they came up with that if you can sub your way to healthy they'll do it, you might have to talk with a manager. Keep lobbying them & thanking the manager, they know thehealthyvegans.com)
