Here I am again! lol
Soooo what do you all think is the optimal first food to consume in the morn, after all that 'fasting/sleeping?" My breakfast is usually apples... but now I am wondering if I should switch to taters or just raw carrots or jicama (starch)???
I guess I feel like I should have fruit in the morn, or raw at least?? Easily absorbing 'sugar'??? But I was reading on here about the fruit and starch digesting and storing it differently so now I am wondering if I cut out fruit, maybe my tum~tum would go down even more?? Silly I know... I'm always trying  Is there a benefit to cutting out fruit ya think?? Anyone experience that??
I have been having fruit first thing in the morning for over a year now no fail, so this would be a big change for me ;-) And I usually don't eat till around 11am, even though I wake up between 5-7am...I don't even desire fruit like I used to! It soooo weird!!

I like about a cup of steamed broccoli and a big bowl of fresh, hot coarse rice for dessert. This is so nutritious and satisfies me for hours!

I am a happy customer! :-D

Good question...and maybe this is one reason I was in China for years before I found brown rice. The translation of 糙米/cao1mi3 is "brown rice" but the two characters are 糙=coarse and 米=rice.

While I suppose they have several varieties of it, my guess is that our coarse rice is far less refined than most of the brown rice in the USA. It seems to have much more fiber/body/character. I think the taste is also far superior to any other rices I have tried.

I doubt if most Chinese have ever eaten it!

If you visit me in China, I will be happy to fix you a good breakfast of broccoli and coarse rice, Lynn! :-D

My thought is not to cut out the apple but add some whole grains/potatoes to it. I would be hungry too quickly if all I ate was apple first thing in the morning.
I have oatmeal or 10 grain hot cereal (I cook off a cup or two, keep it in the fridge and reheat some in the morning for a substantial breakfast that is REALLY fast) along with a piece of fruit. I wouldn't eat it if I had to cook it every morning...

I'm going to suggest what works for me most every day for the last 5 years. I have yet to tire of it and I feel like a million bucks till noon.
I have a bowl of Old Fashioned Quaker Oats in a bowl. I wet it with either pomegranate juice or water. I stick it in the microwave for 45 seconds, take it out, top it with blueberries, raspberrys, and blackberrys , slice a banana on top and that is my breakfast. I look forward to it every day.

My daily breakfast is a hot cereal - it's an oatmeal and rye mix that I get from our local farmer's market, cooks just like oatmeal, and tastes like oatmeal with a little nuttier taste from the rye. I have it with a half banana and a little splash of rice milk. So good!

My absolutely favorite breakfast is:

1 sweet potato
1/4 c oatmeal
sweetener
sometimes fruit like banana or pineapple
cinnamon
salt to taste
water

Mix all in a food processor or blender until it is the consistency you desire. This is called sweet potato pudding and man is it good.

This stuff keeps me full for hours!

Dang, I've got to go pick up some sweet potatoes...and soon! :unibrow:

I always start the day with starch, usually oatmeal (steel cut) and sometimes sweet potato with banana...yummy good!

Cheers

I've never been much of a breakfast person.

That would be a cooked sweet potato?

I'm pretty much stuck on oatmeal, banana and a few raisins (cut down on the raisins since I started McDougall). Don't think I could last until lunch on just fruit alone, but I've always been an early morning person and think that's part of wanting/needing a substantial breakfast.

Sometimes I make blueberry or apple-ginger muffins, they're a nice change but don't have the same filling power as the oatmeal.

I make large batches of salsa (tomatoes, cilantro, green chiles, red onion, cumin, lemon juice and salt) which tastes great mixed with leftover grains for breakfast, and on a baked potato at lunch. Super quick and easy, and delicious too. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, I eat almost no fruit at all, although I buy a lot for my kids.

Nordgirl, is that salsa cooked or raw? Tomatoes chopped or processed?

Oatmeal and a mug of rooibus tea and I'm set to meet the day.
