Crisco was a staple in our house when I was a kid, and it took me a few years to wean myself off it once I left home. I think I read something about it being virtually indestructible and figured it wasn't that great to bake with. Not that butter, then olive oil was any better...

 That's great! Here in Panama, the land of "fry anything that looks like food" I should be able to find lots of Crisco-like candle making material. This will come in handy for the constant power outages that happen here. Don't know about filling my house with the smell of burning tallow or pig fat though....

I think Crisco is all vegetable now. I don't know if that would make a good candle.

Crisco, is the absolute BEST moisturizer I have ever used. Coconut oil, olive oil, any commercial concoction doesn't come close. Used on the face, feet, anywhere. Try it!

I read it is used in hospitals and they call it Cream C.

It doesn't make my face break out at all.

Didn't mean to highjack thread, but add to it a great use for Crisco.

Maybe you could use a can of lard, and make a bacon-scented candle?
