I got this on my Facebook feed:

http://www.sott.net/articles/show/24251 ... rt-Disease

Apparently this doctor wrote a book called The Great Cholesterol Lie. Almost sounds like Gary Taubes.

He's right about inflammation, of course, but wrong about what causes it. He needs to read Dr. Esselstyn's book!!! Note that he doesn't even offer any PROOF for his crazy assertions!

Trust me on this: One day you'll wake up and realize that it no longer feels like "being strict." It just feels GOOD. :)

Actually I found out that his doctor has had his medical license revoked, but he is still touting his claims in books, websites and on TV. Unsurprisingly he is an advisor to a vitamin supplement company.

That's good, but how do you get him to stop trying to convince people to kill themselves. My favorite part is:

Quote:
The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates,

These guys really think that 20-30% fat means low in fat. That's the sad part.

I keep finding that any claim that seems counter to Dr. McDougall's, and looks interesting, dies when I impose it to the light of Google. For instance, I read what seemed like a convincing argument that eating fat doesn't impact insulin resistance, while Dr. McDougall says it does.

I looked it up - several studies I found say that Dr. McDougall is RIGHT, but there were hundreds (I'm not kidding) of websites and blog posts that just repeated this "new wisdom" that dietary fat doesn't have an impact on insulin resistance. You really have to go to the studies, really look it up. Whenever I do that I find that the low-fat vegan docs know their stuff and are reporting the science correctly, and the bloggers and "health writers" are just repeating the trends.
