I started this thread on March 27, when my orthopedic surgeon diagnosed me with osteoarthritis in my left knee, after suffering an injury while playing soccer back on March 3.

Well surprise, guess what the x-rays didn't show that the MRI did? I have a major tear in my medial meniscus, which has been causing me all the pain and inflammation for nearly 2 months. The way I read this, I was misdiagnosed, as the doctor based his opinion off x-rays not requesting an MRI.

It just goes to show what rotten luck I have had with doctors this year. Guess I will look to get the surgery to remove the torn meniscus and hopefully rid myself of needing the medical establishment to cure me of any further ills. Thankfully the surgery is minor, even with a major tear.

I'm glad you finally have your answer, Steve. Your story just proves that we need to get more than one opinion when it comes to major injuries/pains/illnesses.

Good luck and keep us posted on your torn miniscus. I know that is painful.

After nearly 2 months since getting injured while playing soccer, the day has finally arrived for the surgery to remove a piece of torn meniscus in my left knee. The orthopedic (yeah, the same one who said it was osteoarthritis with taking an MRI) says it's a minor 45 minute procedure and I should be up and walking by later today. Unfortunately talking to a few people who have had this done I am getting a varying opinions when it comes to how you feel and how quickly you recuperate. Hopefully being more on the healthy side this time, I can recover quicker. I'll comment on the procedure when I return home.

Knees seem like the weak link in human anatomy. If it's not the knees themselves, it's the IT band that is rubbing up against them or the ligaments that keep the knee cap in its proper place.

Good luck to you in your recovery. Although exercise is healthy and fun, adequate rest is so important to the human body, especially those darned knees.

As a veteran couch potato who recently took up recreational sports, I identify with the desire to get out there and compete. But we have to be careful too.

Well, I am really lecturing myself here, because my injury was caused by me being an overly enthusiastic new athlete.

Hope you enjoy a quick and complete recovery from your injury.
