I am posting this because of Jeff Novick's recent posts about the benefits of these.

See

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruciferous_vegetables

from the above cited article:

"Widely considered to be healthy foods, they are high in vitamin C and soluble fibre and contain multiple nutrients and phytochemicals with potential anticancer properties: diindolylmethane, sulforaphane and selenium. Both diindolylmethane, sulforaphane, and many other sharp-tasting substances in these vegetables are produced from substances called glucosinolates."

I have shredded cabbage pretty much everyday as part of my salads. When i have them, I enjoy baby bok choy, choi sum and other green leafy vegetables. I eat a variety of other vegetables.

Aloha, patty

I eat a lot of broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and sometimes brussel sprouts. I have hypothyroidism and I know some people think that those foods will affect thyroid hormone uptake, but my endocrinolgist never said I should stop eating them and my thyroid levels have been OK for years.

I don't, but I could easily incorporate into the salad I eat daily.

So far just cabbage several times a week. 50 years of bad programming to overcome. Working on it... slowly....

Not every day, but we eat them a lot. Broccoli is my favourite vegetable. I had it with supper last night and the night before. Tonight we'll be having brussels sprouts or cauliflower and we like cabbage too.

I don't like them raw though.

Cabbage is my default vegetable - I eat it at least a couple times a day and never get tired of it!

What I found out is with cabbage I can shred enough of it to put in a container for a week. And I do this with carrots, and use both on a bed of lettuce. Kale and other green leafy vegetables can be shredded too. A salad with a fat free dressing beside a nuked potato, I am a happy camper.

My urinary tract seems to love salads with raw vegetables. When I was eating a lot of soups with leafy greens, and spices like cumin I irritated my bladder. Now I enjoy leafy greens but not to excess.

Aloha, patty

I don't eat cruciferous vegetables every day, but most days I do. Usually collards, cabbage, kale, broccoli or cauliflower.

I eat a lot of cold, shredded cabbage with other veggies chopped up then add my mustard dressing...my own version of coleslaw. It fills me up for a long time and I like the crunch and it satisfies my need to chew.

I eat broccoli and cauliflower daily and I also like green cabbage and purple cabbage. My guess is that these also help with weight management since they are quite satisfying! :-D
