My husband and I went into a bookstore today, and to my complete shock, there was a copy of The Starch Solution. How can this be, I wondered? I pre-ordered this book in January and it isn't supposed to be out until May.

And there it was, at the top: ADVANCE UNCORRECTED PROOF. I asked the clerk if I could still buy it, was it okay to sell these? She said it was just fine, so I took it home.

It's great! I love it! I was wondering how he could keep all this material fresh, but he's definitely done it. Lots of explanation of why it's okay to eat starch, why we don't have to fear it, and why starch can truly give us hope. The sections on nutrition are very well-written and presented in a way that answers a lot of the myths floating around as truths out there right now.

I was very impressed with how well this will address the very common concerns of "newbies" (like myself) to the diet. There is also a great recipe section that I'm excited to delve into. I think this will be welcomed by new folks and seasoned McDougallers alike. If you haven't pre-ordered your copy yet, definitely go for it. I'm going to go ahead and keep my pre-order in effect, so that I can have an extra copy to give to a friend or family member.

Great job, Doc!

I'm a bit jealous! :D

I've pre-ordered my copy and now I'm looking forward to it even more.

Maybe there will be an advanced copy at Seattle Vegfest this weekend. I'll take a look. Neal Barnard is one the presenters this year.

Nice! After watching a movie last night I watch Dr. M's presentation on The Starch Solution on You Tube, where he presented to VSH.org a few years back. It was quite interesting information, now I need to watch the end of it.

I plan to buy it, but I was just over on my library's website and The Starch Solution was already being offered for reserve requests, so I reserved it. I am # 1 on the list! :) I am just so pleased that my library carries all of Dr. McDougall's books and also books by Dr. Barnard, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Fuhrman. They also carry some of their DVD's.

Thank you, Gramma Jackie. I went to my library site and put the book on hold; unfortunately, our library system is ordering only 5 copies and I am #16 in line. I will be waiting a while.

Seattle Vegfest? I've lived here my whole life and didn't know this even existed! Well, now I've got plans for the weekend :D

Awesome Russ; give some reaction to the fest!

PurpleKale, aren't you the lucky one? :-P Dr M's presentation is quite enjoyable to watch but having the book is fantastic!

I am new here...just pre-ordered on amazon.

You know, that book store shouldn't have even charged you for the book. I'm an amazon.com Vine reviewer and get advance, uncorrected proofs all the time to review. They are not to be resold. Amazon makes that very clear to us. That said, if I had my hands on an early copy, heck I probably would have bought it too! ha ha!

I am glad to be here. I joined Weight Watchers to lose 50 lbs. I follow their alternative plan, Simply Filling Technique, which avoids most points-counting and was simply made for plant-based eating. But I didn't care for a lot of the recipes, researched McDougall (which I remembered from the 80's) and landed here. The recipes on this website are beyond awesome.

I can't wait until my book arrives! Too bad amazon couldn't have sent ME an unproofed copy for review. Oh well, less than 2 more months to go.

I'm so glad someone mentioned checking the library and getting on the hold list before it even arrives. I'm now 17th in line. I like that there are other McDougallers or would-be McDougallers in the area!

I'm so excited for the release! I can't wait to read the new book. I also can't wait to buy extra copies for family and friends. I may even buy a copy for every colleague in my residency program. Dr. McDougall's books have been so important and influential to patients and physicians alike, but most of them were written 20+ years ago! The world is a different place now in 2012 than it was then and as we inch closer and closer toward increased acceptance of this work, The Starch Solution is sure to play a major role in a much needed healthcare revolution.

Congratulations and thank you Dr. McDougall!

Best,
MK

Very excited to read the book when it's available. On a side note, with the economy, I don't think the timing could be better. In Greece they're rediscovering the potato (though Lent helps too) and even w/the bad press the potato gets here I'm sure it'll soon be getting the same treatment in this country.

I really, really hope it won't mean the potato will jump tenfold in price once "everyone" realizes its importance and new-found popularity. :(
