PCRM have been quoted by UK Daily Mail criticising Jamie Oliver's book for including recipes that are unhealthy. Thought you might be interested. Interesting thing is there is no mention of PCRM's vegan/vegetarian background - they are just described as scientists or nutritionists. Anyway here's the link.

The comments on the article are enlightening -- "Nobody has a heart attack just because they ate one high-calorie sandwich", "[Virginia is the] fattest state in the fattest country in the world", and "The PCRM are actually a front group for PETA and you can't take anything they say seriously!" It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Yeah it's kind of depressing reading those comments isnt it?! I did actually submit my own comment agreeing with PCRM and including their website but that was hours ago and it still hasnt been included so I suppose it wont be allowed in - shame! But I think it is true that PCRM is at least partially funded by PETA. I dont know what proportion of PCRM funding is met by PETA though - maybe someone here can enlighted me?

Regardless of who funds them, they certainly have a pro-animal rights stance. That shouldn't automatically disqualify anything they say. I'm not sure why people do that. They still do provide good information. In this case they are absolutely right regardless of their animal rights position.

To me, Jamie Oliver always looks bloated and unhealthy - he used to look so good many years ago. :(

There are links between PETA and PCRM. PETA is a financial supporter (not the only one) and Dr. Barnard did serve on PETA's board. There are also aligned goals of moving people away from consuming animal products and stopping animal research. But, that's not the same as being a front for an organization.

He looks like that to me and many others, as well. The diet he advocates isn't very healthy. But, when you're trying to improve on school lunches any direction you go is likely to be an improvement.

Absolutely. The schools I've seen don't prepare anything. They even buy pre-made frozen PB&J's with the crust off.

Excuse my ignorance - what is "PB&J's"?
