Ok sooo I had to leave early this morn and work with my dad (construction), and yup I froze today!!! :( But today was going to be my first day eating 'this way', and I'm coming off of 801010, but I was called to work last second so I had to grab food fast... And what did I grab? 4 apples, 6 small oranges, carrots, and celery.. what did I eat?? allllll the fruit... so I just got home, crono~meter shows I have had 790 cals so far.. should I just stay fruity the rest of the day, or just have a salad tonight, or have starch and cooked veggies?
Please help, I really don't want to gain weight... I feel like since I ate all that fruit, I should skip the starches today??? What do you think??? I am sooooo lost with what to eat!! I have also been eating all raw for a long, and I am hesitant to start cooking.., but I am super cold right now!!!! Off to grab some herbal tea, and hopefully decide on the correct din~din???
You can not eat that much fruit on this "diet" right????

You may find this thread from Jeff Novick's forum useful. It explains the principle of calorie density, which is a very important concept in understanding how to lose weight while following this way of eating.

viewtopic.php?t=6032

Quote:
If you allow people to eat "ad libitum" or all they want till the are comfortably full, from low calorie dense foods, they will lose weight, not be hungry and do not have to count calories.

Of course, calories still count, but it becomes almost impossible to over consume calories from the foods you choose if you follow these recommendations.

These are averages

Fresh Veggies are around 100 cal/lb
Fresh Fruits around 250-300 cal/lb
Starchy Veggies/Intact Whole Grains around 450-500 cal/lb
Legumes around 550-600 cal/lb
Processed Grains (even if their Whole grain) around 1200-1500 cal/lb
Nuts/Seeds around 2800 cal/lb
Oils around 4000 cal/lb

What they found is if the calorie density of the food is below 400 calories per pound, not matter how much they eat, they all lost weight.

Between 600-800 calories per pound, with some moderate exercise, they all lost weight.

Between 800-1200 calories per pound, people gained weight, except for those with very high activity levels

Over 1200 calories per pound, everyone gained weight.

From this you can see that you don't need to be afraid of starch!

Not a doc but I say if there is any time to eat fruit, the best time would be before the heavier stuff so go ahead and eat your starches now.

I just don't see how fruit can make anyone gain weight unless they are eating 6000 calories of it a day and completely sedentary, and even then fruit is full of fiber and water it moves through you and out so quickly.

You should be congratulated, if anything, that you ate clean food full of nutrients and fiber and no processed foods or fats. So, GOOD FOR YOU! :)

No go have some potatoes :-P

Thank you guys! I actualy ran out right after posting this a picked up potatoes, yams, squash, jicama, and cauliflower... came home made a huge raw spinach and chard salad with lemon and apple cider vinegar, and cooked up carrots, celery, jicama, and squash's.. I am full!!!! I took out the potatoes to cook them, but I got scared :( So tomorrow I will cook up a bunch of potatoes in the morn. How many potatoes can you have in a day??? I don't wanna make too many and ruin anything... sorry I keep posting my annoying questions.... my book is on its way! Yay!!! Are cooked carrots, cauliflower, and jicama considered starch? I know corn is right??

If you ate fruit worth 800kcal and this salad you acctually eat to little IMO. You can't gain weight with eating potatoes. Potatoes have very little fat and protein and are low in calories so eat as many you want until full. If you are hungry just eat the right foods. ;) If you are cold you are not eating enough. Eat starches to warm you up.

Potatoes are a good, healthy food and you can have as many as you like! It's what people usually put on their potatoes (butter, sour cream) that's the problem, not potatoes themselves.
