I wanted to ask about baked beans, I know they don't have much fat in them, but I would have thought they had too much sugar. Makes them a better choice than a lot of other things when out, but I was wondering about eating them at home.

It will vary by brand of course - but I just checked the can of Tesco Everyday Value beans we have in our cupboard and the amount of sugar is 4.5g/100g baked beans. This is considered "low" according to the food shopping reference card I got from Which? a few years ago. I personally don't eat baked beans at home, only when out, because I don't actually like them that much. Of course you could make your own if it worries you, either with a can of plain haricot beans or cooking your own haricots from scratch and adding seasonings and tomato sauce to taste.

Thanks, I went for the Subway option in the end, but I think I will keep the beans option open for another day and will try making my own to see what sort of a job I can do. Today I think I cleared Manchester out of all the Lock and Load plastic
tubs they had so I can fill them with cooked beans and rice etc for the freezer.

Did anybody find a way to get UK McDougallers together? Perhaps a facebook page? I'm in West Sussex and would love to be able to chat (even if only online) with other people in the UK.

This is the only place I know of for UK McDougallers. A FB page would be great, could you set one up? Would love to join.

LOL...that is what I was thinking!

It is the same here. Someone from Brooklyn, New York, does NOT sound the same as someone from Nashville, Tennessee in the USA. :)

There are a few of us here scattered all over the country. I am a Brit who read The China Study and Esselstyn then joined the McDougal boards because I haven't been able to convince anyone I know to join me in this WOE. I am on the Isle of Wight and am 61. Do not have any particular health issues, just wanted to lower cholesterol and reduce chances of ever having a stroke. It was the Healthy Librarian's blog that got me started. I just stumbled on that and loved it.

Today I batch cooked some rice and beans and had fun with chinese flavours, using them to make a salad based on steamed savoy cabbage. Its nice to know my fridge is full of good things!
