For those who are not yet sick of listening to or reading about Paula Deen here is the clip of her on the today show recently where she says, regarding the diabetes, that a "few people were kinda mean about it."

Other comments that stood out:

Paula says that since her parents died young she is "so proud" to have lived long enough to "have to deal with something like this." As if type 2 diabetes is an inevitable part of aging!!!

And chicken is rich in manganese and good for the thyroid? I didn't know her son was such an expert in health and nutrition. :) Oh and someone should tell him that if he is so concerned about thyroid function then perhaps his mother shouldn't be on Victoza because it increases the risk of thyroid cancer. Or maybe he is aware of this and is hoping the chicken will somehow help lessen her risk.

Seems like Bobby is trying to take over things. He pretty much did all the talking and she made a comment when I watched the Today Show about having to "talk over" him. I sincerely hope he is concerned about his mother's health and not just the family business, but I'm not so sure.

More on Paula Deen. She says she has lost two pant sizes! She is still cooking fried chicken for her fans though.

I have used the example of marathon runner Jim Fixx many times as someone who was thin and looked fit, but who still died of a heart attack. When I lived in Florida, our governor, Lawton Chiles, died while exercising on a treadmill just before he retired. Anorexics are thin, but nothealthy. So exercising and losing weight in itself does not insure healthiness. While exercise is important, it doesn't do a lot of good if the food you eat is unhealthy. That is the most important thing I've learned from Dr. McDougall.

I agree GJ.

As Dr McD says, "Cemeteries are filled with young men and women who put too much faith in exercise—ignoring the prevailing role of food."

I think it is fairly clear that Ms Deen is not ready to learn yet. The other day I heard her saying "When I came down with something. "
She is still looking at it as something that came from the outside. Needs to be controlled from the outside-pills, etc.
Only when we realize we have a part in this. We can make changes, and actually effect our lives.
Yes, it would be nice if Paula was doing and speaking this way, but she is not.
THat does not change what each of us should do.
